Country Inn & Suites Duluth was… fine. The lobby looked nice, the pool existed, and check-in was quick — though I think I must’ve angered the desk clerk somehow because we were blessed with the reject room. My husband, 17-year-old daughter, and I got a two-queen room, but the bed my husband and I chose had a divot so massive I’m pretty sure it’s a leftover mining pit from the Iron Range. Every time we finally managed to fall asleep, we rolled into each other like mismatched bowling balls. If you’ve ever wanted a forced cuddle simulator, this is the mattress for you.
The rest of the hotel? Totally decent. But that bed? Hands down, worst night’s sleep of my life — which really set me up nicely for the four-hour drive home the next morning. Nothing like white-knuckling it down the highway in a zombie state because your bed was basically a trapdoor to spooning hell.
Next time I’ll just book a campsite — at least the ground is flat.
