What an absolute nightmare! This was the first time I’d taken an adventure out of town with my daughter, she’s 7. We went to GR to see Three Days Grace and were gifted concert tickets for Christmas. First things first; Parking is an absolute scam! You pay over $200 for some nasty room in the old nasty building only to be charged an extra $41-$49 for parking. We paid over $200 for one night in a single bed room, we get there and were placed in a handicapped room in the old out of date nasty rooms. We asked about the pool.. “oh well that’s in the tower elevators on the 4th floor.” It was so hot in there I was ready to pass out and vomit, we had to leave. The mattresses in the rooms were so old and outdated I didn’t sleep at all, I was afraid they were so worn and used and disfigured I’d end up on the floor. The pool was old and gross. The cushions on the “poolside lounges” were so old and gross you could literally see the butt and mold imprints of decades of guests well formed. We were offered a $10/person breakfast…. Well, you want to get breakfast, it’s at least $15/person plus beverages, plus tip if you wanna leave one. This place was GROSS! Never ever again, will I stay here. The fact that they charge so much for nasty, outdated rooms,and extra $41-50 for parking overnight, FALSE ADVERTISING FOR THE ROOMS OFFERED, nasty pool with moldy cushions, a nasty room with nerds candy everywhere and dirty floors, $10 breakfast per person that ended up costing me almost $40. Awful!

The hotel is beautiful but the policies really undermine having an experience that aligns with the cost of staying there. There was no one to help unload my car so I grabbed a luggage trolley that was available in the car drop off space. There were at least 10 lined up. After I unloaded my car and got halfway in the hotel a worker told me the trolley “wasn’t for me”. Those trolleys were only for guests “who want help unloading.” I had to unload my luggage onto another trolley and was told to be sure to return the trolley to the front desk when I was done. I was never asked if I needed or wanted help. At checkout, my daughter called and asked someone to bring a trolley to our room and we were told to come and get it ourselves. I don’t fault the workers, these seem to be hotel policies. But this is not the experience I’d expect when we paid over $500 to stay at the hotel per night. The hotel had one small “restaurant” (the size of a small Starbucks) offering breakfast. This is a huge hotel, so obviously the line for breakfast was about 25+ people deep. The Amway does not seem concerned with guest experience- despite the high cost of staying there. We went to celebrate my daughter’s birthday. We won’t be staying there again. Next time I’ll try to JW Marriott across the street.

The service at the hotel was great. Every team member had a smile and was helpful. The room was clean and accommodating. I didnt care for the bathroom layout. It was small and the toilet paper holder was in an awkward spot. The toilet reminded me of a public toilet due to its design. Those are minor irritants. The view was amazing! We were on the 23rd floor overlooking the river. We enjoyed dinner and drinks at Wolfgang Kitchen. The food and service was great. The skywalk to DeVos Hall was convenient for the show we enjoyed last night.

Vallet was a mess, spent 10 minutes waiting in turnout. Emded up.self parking. Party that was not shut down until just before midnight. Water in shower never got warm. We planned on going to Wolfgangs but woke up Sunday morning with pinkeye (first time we left house since Wednesday due to.weather)! We could not leave fast enough.

The staff was amazing, friendly and helpful. The restaurant choices were great for adults and kids. The pool was a huge hit. We were in town for a hockey tournament and being able to use the skywalk was a BIG plus!
