Room was nice and clean and bed comfy. Problem was the bathroom was really outdated. The tried to refinish the tub and sink by just painting with some sort of latex paint. needless to to say didn't look nice at all.
First, although navigating the roads of Provence was a difficult task for us, due to our lack of comprehension of the french language and their unclear markings, we found the hotel easily, thanks to their clear signage. We drove right up to it and parked in their own private lot. The Hotel is right over the Sorgue river, giving all rooms the soothing sound of rushing water. Our room on the top floor looked out into the tree tops. Nice room - clean and well appointed. We would have preferred a shower to the tub with spray faucet, but that's the only thing to complain about. There is an elevator for easy access. hey serve drinks in the Lobby and there is a beautiful terrace and pool with the river branches running through in channels. The stall - especially Jerome - were very kind and helpful. It is a short 5 minute walk to the quiet little village with several restaurants (Staff will make recommendations) and a very peaceful stay, compared to the frenetic energy of Isle sur la Sorgue, a 15 minute drive away. A worthwhile sight to see in the Fontaine de Vaucluse - one of the sources of the Sorgue river. It was gushing during our stay in May. But the cold Mistral winds blew strongly during much of our brief stay. There is also a good museum commemorating the french travails and resistance during the Nazi occupation.
Although this review is a little late....we stayed at La Bastide de Gordes in June of 1999, as part of our 3 week trip throughout Provence to celebrate our 15th Wedding Anniversary. Out of the 7 or 8 small, beautiful boutique hotels we stayed in from Paris, Arles, Le Beaux, Aix en Provence, Lyon, Avignon and to St Tropez.....over the course of 3 weeks, this was one of the most charming!! The food was extraordinary....and the staff lovely. If you want to relax in refined luxury in a small, boutique hotel where you are not crowded in a big city, can tour the town's markets and delights and let the stress fall away....then we recommend La Bastide de Gordes. We found the staff very professional, and also with a good sense of humor. They will take excellent care of you....we recommend it. While visiting my niece in Paris several years later, I brought her to La Bastide de Gorde to see the hotel and enjoy dinner together. As an architectural student, she fell in love with the hotel/food and beautiful Gordes, too! My husband and I enjoyed it so much we are returning in Sept 2007 and we can't wait! Enjoy!
