So much to do here; loved the little town square idea; the shops; Karstens for some food and drink; loved the singer (?Jason; from Nashville) in the evening. Great paths to walk around along the river.

Dear Guest, Thank you for completing the survey regarding your recent stay at the McKinley Chalet Resort. We strive to provide a memorable Alaska experience to all who visit. I apologize that the hot water was not working properly and that maintenance did not respond in a satisfactory manner.

Nice hotel, beautiful views

Cons: Less expensive food in at least one of the places.
Location: Denali National Park, of course. Take the bus tour sponsored by the National Park and ask for Rex to be your driver. You'll have a fantastic day!
Definitely very happy we were able to get a room. Expensive to eat but good food. Beautiful property. Wish we would have planned further ahead so we could have stayed one more night there.

Housekeeping with sticky fingers

Pros: Location was great. Just outside the entrance to Denali National Park. Crowded but resort is very efficient at moving people.
Cons: Add refrigerators and microwaves. Cut down the trees obstructing the views of the mountains out the rear windows of the rooms.
Location: Tour desk was very helpful in setting up a day trip to Denali and a night show at the resort.
When we got back to the room after a day excursion, a small amount of loose change, about $2-$3 dollars was taken from a plastic cup that I had placed on the dresser. I feel that the trust between the customer and the hotel was broken. After that we put the do not disturb sign on the door and replaced the towels ourselves as needed. Needless to say, the $3-$5 I usually leave per day tip was saved and used for other things.

Very Convenient Location

McKinley Chalets is a nice place to stay in Denali National Park. The facility is beautiful and comfortable with friendly staff eager to help meet your needs. They want your experience to be pleasant and fun. Getting around in the park can be a bit of a challenge - but this hotel has transportation down to a science. Shuttles will get you anywhere you want to go or to a connecting point.

McKinlry Chalet Resort

When we got to our room we were very disappointed because it was not at all what they told us it would be. We ordered a room with a view of the river (paid extra for that view). We didnt have a view at all. The bathroom was dirty and there was dead bugs everywhere. There were live spiders all over the room. The controller for the tv was broken and so we went to call the desk to talk to them and all the buttons on the phone were missing. We went to the front desk at that time and asked why we didnt get the room with the view like we paid for. They tried to tell us that we asked for a special so thats the rooms they give for specials but we did not ask for that, we paid full price for a room with a view. At that time they were very pleasent and helpful. They gave us free breakfast for the next day and a upgrade for our second night there. We still didnt have a view of the river but it was a very nice room. So stay in cottonwood if u go there. All the staff was very nice and the overall experience was good. Dont think there is a room with a good view of the river.

The location was beautiful with the river & mountains at the back.

Pros: Quiet, beautiful location
Cons: somewhat high food prices
We were here as part of a Princess package so I don't know how much the room was by itself. The decor was somewhat rustic but comfortable, nothing fancy. The staff at the front desk was very helpful and the main building was beautiful. We just had a simple lunch in the restaurant before spending 5 hours on an excellent wildlife tour of Denali Park. Because the prices were high, we purchased things for breakfast at a Subway and local cafe directly across the highway from the main building.

Much better than the Denali Princess

My wife and I won a spot in the Denali Road Lottery and were pleased to find a room open this late in the season (mid-Sept.). The cabin room was very nice for the money with a double and twin bed plus a pull out sofa, if necessary. The walls are kinda thin...could hear the guy next door snoring! And I attribute it to being close to closing date but the beds (both of them) had distinct slumps in them towards the center of the room. I solved the problem on the second night by flipping the mattress end to end and remaking the bed. We had dinner both nights at the bar which had its own menu or you could order from the main restaurant menu too....very good food. The facility overall was much better laid out than the Denali Princess which we checked out.

Expect the hordes from the cruise ships...

Pros: close to the park entrance
Cons: too sprawling with too many people coming/going
McKinley Chalet Resort - It sounded so quaint. In fact, it is a sprawling empire. It seemed like there were thousands of folks from the cruise lines coming and going each day. That said, we were treated well and were lucky to get a nice room in the back by the rushing creek which provide wonderful ambient sound. It did provide us a great laugh. When we asked the hostess at the restaurant what she recommended - she looked around and then whispered "the Salmon Bake Restaurant across the street." By the way I do not recommend the Salmon Bake. Better to stay away from "Glitter Gulch." entirely.
