We arrived at the motel to find the office locked up (at 3:00 PM). After 10 minutes of ringing the bell and looking for someone we defaulted to phoning the number written on one of the notes on the office window. My wife spoke with a lady who said everything was now digital and gave her a code to access our room. For the duration of stay the office remained closed, so there was no chance to ask for information about Christchurch or to check out the many pamphlets visible through the locked office door. The room was quite spacious and clean, but at night closing the windows and turning on the AC resulted in the Carbon Monoxide alarm to repeatedly go off. Again, with the office closed, no quick opportunity to sort out this issue. This felt like the owners have decided they no longer want to deal in-person with their clientele. The digital access to the laundry room did not work all the time, making trying to do laundry a challenge.
