How to get through airport security fast when traveling to Kampala
These practical hints and tips about airport security checks will save you a lot of time and energy on your way to Kampala:

  • Have your passport and boarding pass somewhere handy. They'll be the first things you'll be instructed to produce by airport security personnel.
  • Remove your shoes, belt and jewellery before arriving at the security checkpoint. Items like these are not allowed in the body scanner.
  • Make sure your laptop, phone and other electronic devices are within easy reach. These items need to be sent through the X-ray machine separately.
  • Hand cream, toothpaste and other toiletry items in cream, liquid or gel form need to be stored in containers no larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters). They also need to fit in a 1-quart (1-liter) clear zip-lock bag.
  • Steel-cap footwear and other cumbersome shoes are often X-rayed at the security checkpoint. It might be wise to wear simple sneakers instead.
  • Stash any pocketknives or other dangerous items in your checked luggage. Security won't allow these on the plane.

Flights To Kampala

Flights to Kampala, Uganda, which land at Entebbe International Airport (EBB), could be the first leg of an epic escapade, checking off the Big Five on a wildlife safari, tracking mountain gorillas, or whitewater rafting at Jinja, the fabled source of the River Nile. Kampala vacation packages can also mean days exploring this city of seven hills, which is also the capital and the largest city of Uganda. It has much to offer its visitors: See the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Tombs of Buganda Kings at Kasubi, learn about local culture and history at the Uganda Museum, and tour the circa-1922 Mengo Palace. Find cheap flights to Kampala and let your East African adventure begin.

Transportation from EBB

Entebbe International Airport is 25 miles from Kampala. It's an approximately 30-minute drive, but know that traffic in the center of Kampala is notoriously congested, so you might need to allow extra time to reach your ultimate destination. Many of the higher-end hotels in Kampala, as well as some mid-range accommodations, offer airport transfers for their guests. Two private shuttle companies also serve the airport. Other options include the Pineapple Express airport shuttle bus, a nine-person van with two scheduled trips daily between drop-off points in Kampala, EBB, and Jinja; the Green Bus, which departs on the hour throughout the day and will take you from EBB into central Kampala; and two types of taxis. You can take a minibus taxi from the airport to Entebbe taxi park, and then another to one of the taxi parks in central Kampala. Or, find a "special-hire" taxi, which isn't necessarily marked, parked curbside outside the terminal with its door open. If you don't see a meter inside, haggling over the price is both expected and advisable. Several car rental companies at EBB present the option to drive yourself.
