The Patio Suite Summa

Summary:
Charming studio English Basement suite located in a fully renovated 1850's antebellum mansion. Ideal for a couple on a weekend getaway or a solo traveler on business.

No detail was overlooked in the renovation of this historic home in Charleston's Cannonborough neighborhood, featuring beautifully restored cypress wall panelling, a custom-kitchenette with high-end finishes, French Baroque inspired-tin ceiling paneling, and exquitie bath finishes including reclaimed 1854 Vermont roofing slate from the house and a polished nickel British high-tank water closet.

The Space:
The rental features a queen bed with premium linens & all the comforts of a boutique hotel - quality bath products & towels, hair dryer, iron, wi-fi, premium TV channels with the added convenience of an exclusive and private outdoor patio sitting area.

Set back from the street, this cozy efficiency provides a true Charleston experience for guests without breaking the bank! Easily walkable to MUSC, College of Charleston, King Street’s most popular retail, restaurants & more.

Guest Access:
Access to this exclusive space is from the back porch down the (spiral stairs.)
You have access to the large front porch with dedicated seating for only you, rear porch, and patio with big Green Egg charcoal grill, charcoal being complimentary of course.

The Neighborhood:
Visitors can shop for tailored menswear at Indigo & Cotton located directly next door and across from the apartment; indulge in the city’s most charming bakery – Sugar Bakeshop - located just across the street from the rental; and peruse the selection of handmade bags and leather goods at J. Stark, just down the block.

Many of the city’s most notable eateries are located in the Cannonborough-Elliotborough neighborhood, or an easy walk from the rental. In an October 2017 Thrillist article on where to eat in and around Charleston now – 11 of the 29 Charleston eateries listed are in easy walking distance to the home (the rest, an easy car or cab ride away): O-Ku, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit, Chez Nous, The Darling Oyster Bar, The Grocery, Indaco, The Ordinary, Xiao Bao Biscuit, Warehouse, Chubby Fish.

Getting Around:
We are only 3 blocks from Upper King Street, so most guests prefer to walk and explore the city. The beach is 15 minutes away by car. There is also a free shuttle offered by the city that runs along King Street (3 blocks away) to popular stops. Bike rentals are available nearby or you might enjoy trying a pedicab taxi. We offer free parking on site or in the lot we manage across the street.

Other Things to Note:
Please note:

* Off-street parking for one car is provided free of charge. Any additional parking is $20 a day per car.

* This efficiency requires guests to access from the spiral staircase pictured here. This is the only access to the rental.

* This space is a patio apartment located in a half-basement with tons of light.

*There is an additional unit above this rental in the same home. If you happen to be traveling with a larger party, we'd be happy to coordinate a rental to accommodate your friends or family.

*The bathroom of this space adjoins Ladles Soups' kitchen. Occasionally a sound or two may be heard emanating from the kitchen; however, this space is completely cordoned off and separated from this very tasty soup, salad, and sandwich shop.

* All Charleston homes in the historic footprint of the city - which this rental falls into - must abide by strict renovation mandates. As such all of our rentals must feature single pane glass to reflect the look and feel of the original home dating back to the 1800s. As such, noise does travel and we ask that all guests who rent from us here and at our properties adjacent please be respectful of neighbors at all times and especially watch noise levels when coming and going after 9 p.m. for the enjoyment of all guests.

* Loud noise and partying will not be tolerated.

Interaction with Guests:
We like to greet guests to make the check in easier, provide directions on where to park and share a few pointers. We are available to assist as needed throughout the stay.

Great stay

The place and location were amazing. Exactly what we expected and looking for. The post was transparent about the stairs and size. You need to understand that you will go down a spiral staircase with luggage. You need to understand that the room and shower is smaller than a standard hotel room. If you understand and accept those items, the place is amazing. If you don't have an understanding of them, you could be disappointed. We loved the place. It's a great vibe and in a great location - close to King St but away and quiet. We would 100% go back. Thank you for a great stay.

We probably should have booked a larger room, but we had everything we needed and then some. This is a very well thought out listing and a beautifully located and appointed room.

Bring your bike's and park your car

We love this place, its our second time here. Ladles, the soup and sandwich shop at the front of the house is awesome and Southbound a gourmet restaurant nextdoor was also incredible. Try to get at the chef's counter. About 3 blocks to King St. Bring your bike's and park your car.

Disappointing stay and NO hot tub!

We did not receive any check in information and therefore had to call the property manager to get in. He was wonderful and right across the street but we felt we should have been given the information before hand. The unit is TINY - small would be too large a word but it is beautiful. I would recommend it for a single traveler with an overnight bag. There is no room for clothes to be hung up (no closet space). The water never gets above warm (we called and a plumber came but did nothing to help the temperature). We had to park behind vehicles for three of the four nights we were there because there is only room for three vehicles and the parking is shared with other units. Lastly and likely the biggest disappointment was that there is NOT a hot tub or a spa as advertised. Downtown is not what I would call walking distance but it is a short drive. This was my husband’s birthday and we gave up a room at the Market Pavillon right downtown to stay here. It was a fine stay but we can’t help but feel it would have been so much better if we stayed in our original spot.

Anniversary Weekend Trip

We loved our stay, especially the location. It is within walking distance of some great restaurants. Our favorite was the one located in the basement that serves homemade soups and sandwiches. It is a small space but has everything you need for a romantic weekend getaway. The owners have done a beautiful job restoring the historical home.

Small and charming

Fabulous use of space. The unit is small and was a bit tight for the two of us but we managed. The saving grace is the patio space. We loved it. A great place for coffee in the am and wine after a day of touring. The owners are wonderful and so responsive. A note, if you have any mobility issues, this unit is below ground and there is a tight a spiral staircase going down to the unit.

SUERP Charming Spot!

This was an absolutely beautiful spot! Incredibly well done on all of the custom work to make this little spot the gem that it is! But do note, it's a pretty tight little unit. The kitchen area is a little bigger than a closet. The bathroom is average sized but still a bit awkward with the layout and tight shower. The main room doesn't have anything in terms of storage space, so I wouldn't recommend booking here if you're staying a long time and would need a dresser or space for anything more than a weekend/carryon bag. The outside patio area is super cool as well, with seating for 5-6 even though the unit can't accommodate more than 2 people staying there. The hosts were also super nice. Overall - 12/10. Would definitely stay here again! Just be aware that it's extremely cozy inside.

Location

This property is in an ideal location to visit and view all of the historical sites (the Battery, the Citadel), historical buildings, architecture. The renowned "Market", eateries to satisfy every appetite, live bands, tours. BUT....most of all, the aforementioned places and sites are all within walking distance from this beautifully crafted very reasonable apartment. Did I mention the homemade soup and sandwich shop in the basement of the building? The site is my choice for my next vacation to Charleston as well. The hostest was very kind

First time in Charleston

The property looked exactly how it was pictured. It was super cute (maybe not always the best for tall people), but it was a great place to stay in (we were adventuring most of the time). You had all of the kitchen type things that you would need and that was so fantastic, along with body wash, conditioner, and shampoo! The reason why I do not highly rate the property is ease of access upon arrival. I clearly communicated with George as to when our flight was taking off at first, when our connecting flight took off, when we finally landed in Charleston and when we would arrive according to lyft. He never responded and I was then nervous. It was a tad hard to find the property since it was behind a restaurant, but once we arrived no one was there. There was no keyless entry. I contacted George on the app; he did not respond. I then found his phone number, he told me he was at Lowe’s and was so sorry. Someone arrived and let us in and gave us the key. George came later and apologized. I do understand that it was a sincere apology, however can you please invest in keyless entry? No one wants this dilemma after traveling for hours.
