room nasty

Cons: Noisy
Bloody towels in the bathroom and on the walls and toilet. Staff was good about providing clean ones when asked. Bed was comfortable and clean..there was cigarette ashes all over the floor..looks like the only thing that was cleaned was the beds. Too expensive for what was provided

I wouldn't let my dog stay here.

Cons: dirty, smelly
This was one of the worst motels I have seen. I have stayed in many cheap motels so I was certainly not expecting anything fancy, and I am by no means a germaphobe. All I really want in a motel is a clean bed and shower; I found neither of those in this motel. The bed had a stained sheet and the recliner was broken and listed to one side. The shower curtain was covered in mold and the room reeked. After spending 10 minutes in the room I started getting physically sick to my stomach from the smell. In all honesty, I can't really comment on how comfortable the bed was because I couldn't bring myself to sit on it. I ended up getting a refund and going elsewhere. I found another motel around the corner that was clean and cheaper. Apparently, Econo Lodge charges extra for the mildew.

would not recommend

the room smelled like an old stale ashtray, had to buy air freshner to cover some of it. was told that was no nonsmoking rooms. lights in room didn't work, (only one). night staff was very friendly and helpful, but would not recommend. had a hard time finding parking spot when returned, not very lit either.

Not Bad at All

I read the other reviews for this hotel on the site. Actually, I read them AFTER I had booked here so I was a little worried. But, it was about the only hotel around Charleston that was in my price range, so I thought I could tough it out. Most of the reviews on this hotel are pretty old in the scheme of things, so perhaps the owner of this hotel got his act together or maybe it is under new management because I only have one complaint. I am a smoker. This trip was made with a group of non-smokers. I didn't request a smoking room, but I didn't specify one way or the other, so that was MY fault. When we entered the room, there was a stale smell like the room hadn't been occupied in a while (I don't know when the busy season is for Charleston...maybe it hadn't started yet?) and there was an underlying hint of cigarette smoke, which was to be expected. I mean, if you walk into a smoking room and expect it to smell like a spring meadow, I don't know what to tell you. One of the aforementioned family members went to Wal-Mart, bought a $2 can of Oust! and the problem was solved. No big deal. I didn't pick up a funky smell on my belongings, there were NO BED BUGS, nothing that looked like urine stains in the bathroom, no sloshingly wet carpet and the air-conditioner worked. The bed clothes were clean and so was the bathroom. It's about what you would expect for the price. Nothing better, nothing less. But better than a lot of these reviewers would lead you to believe.

Not the Greatest Experience

I was disappointed with my recent stay at the Econo Lodge Charleston. To begin with, I had requested a nonsmoking room and was told when I arrived that despite my booking, it was first come, first serve. I decided to deal with it and agreed to take a smoking room. The first room I was given reeked of mildew rather than smoke. The reason for this turned out to be that the carpeting next to one of the beds was soaking, squish, squish wet. I complained and was promptly given a more satisfactory room on the upper level. While the smell was better, the linens and towels were not the cleanest, the air conditioner broke on the first night of my stay, and the television reception was lousy.

Savannah Vacation

The hotel was clean, service and staff were very helpful and nice, breakfast provided was good and what I like (cold cereal,hot cereal,waffles,fruit,yogurt,bagles,muffins,toast,juice & coffee,tea,hot chocolate. The bed was comfortable although the bed sheet did not quite fit the mattress so it would slide off the corners during the night. You had to travel a little way to the historic district, but we had a car so I didn't find it a problem. I would go back if I ever vacationed in Savannah again. It is a interesting and fun city, and I enjoyed myself.

cheap and decent enough

Hi, we were looking for the cheapest yet decent place to stay near the beach. The room was OK, the bed was comfy. Worth it to save the money, IMO
