Big rooms, comfortable beds. Great location. Front door had street trash in areas that never was picked up and the flower pits going up had no plants or dying plants. Not a great street impression. In the back there was a broken light fixture that had been there awhile.

The location is perfect, in the heart of the historic district. We were able to walk everywhere. The staff were friendly and treated us like family. Staying here, felt like home. Property is comprised of a historical building dating back to around 1778. Property is well maintained and blends in nicely to the historical charm of Charleston. The staff were very nice and friendly. They only have 3-5 people working and usually only 2 on site. The Barksdale is an old building but repairs are needed. The balcony on the 3rd floor is closed due to unsafe. However, this is the only fire escape area from the 3rd floor. The toilet in our room rocked and was not sealed into floor. The shower was also very slippery. the hardwood floor in the lobby bathroom had gaps 1/2 inch wide. Handrailing in the front would help also. The staff kept the area clean. The parlor had a loveseat and 1 wingback chair. That was the only relaxing seats in the house that I saw. The other chairs were straight back dining chairs or metal patio table chairs. The 3 stories with stairs only is hard for elders to carry luggage up and down. The breakfast was not what we expected from a bed and breakfast. The food is all purchased from a wholesale warehouse store: mini-muffins, mini-cinnamon rolls, mini- strudels, pound cakes, banana nut bread, gluten-free toaster waffles. They do not have a true kitchen. They made a waffle with fruit that was good. They cooked eggs, bacon, toast, sausages fresh. However, a bed and breakfast in the south should have homemade biscuits, pancakes, muffins, sausage gravy, etc. The grits and oatmeal were instant. Coffee bar ad good selection and tea was available. It is located in the historic district and convenient to the DASH. Bed was decently comfortable but the pillows are hard.

Staff was super friendly. Breakfast was EXCELLENT! Location was convenient and parking was ample.The Inn and rooms were super cute and our bed was comfortable. Our bathroom was clean and functional but really needs an update. Bathroom faucet dripped and water pressure was lacking in the shower. Wall paper was peeling. All in all, this is a great place to stay and a great value.
