I have a lot of family that are from the mountains and I have heard many stories of what it was like in the "old days". This is the house that my grandfather grew up in. One of the main things that sticks out to me about this photo is the size of this home. My grandfather had 9 brothers and sisters and lived in this tiny house. This shows that family is a very important value to the Appalachian people. Because they all lived together until they were married, they were able to create unbreakable bonds. Another thing that I was thinking as I was looking at this house was that people in the "old days" worked hard for what they had yet they still were very poor. There are many houses that look very similar to this home in the back roads of small Appalachian towns. I believe that the older generation that was born and raised in the Appalachia region were much more simpler and family oriented than modern times. #appalachianechoes
