"We spent one night at the Wyndham San Diego Bayside, and while the location is genuinely excellent and the room view is one of the best things going for the property, the overall experience fell short of what a 4-star hotel should deliver.
The building feels dated, and that shows most in the acoustics. Sound insulation is minimal — street noise carried into the room so clearly it felt like standing at the crosswalk below rather than several floors up. Sleep was difficult as a result.
Cleanliness and maintenance were the bigger concerns. The bed sheets had visible tears. The crib we requested for our baby arrived dirty, and we ended up using the travel mattress we'd brought along rather than putting him on it. The carpet hadn't been properly vacuumed — we found Cheetos on the floor when we settled in. The room also carried a musty, slightly moldy smell that didn't dissipate during our stay. In the bathroom, the shower and bathtub drain wasn't working properly, leaving standing water during use.
On the positive side, the location is hard to beat for accessing the bay area and downtown, and the views from the upper floors are genuinely impressive.
Bottom line: the position is great, but at this price point in San Diego, there are better-maintained options nearby. I'd hesitate to recommend it until the property addresses the basic cleanliness and upkeep issues."
