We enjoyed a long weekend at Kauai Makahuena Unit 3201. July 31st--August 4th. The oceanfront location and stunning view sold us, and it’s an easy walk to Shipwrecks Beach and the Grand Hyatt, where day pool passes are available. However, the unit is dated, and we experienced several brief electrical outages. The VRBO listing also omits that there is no A/C, and the photos are more flattering than reality. Check-in uses Truvi, which requires camera access for identity verification. Guests should be made aware of that. Our biggest disappointment was the dirty ocean-facing windows and screens. The view is why we booked this unit, yet the windows were never cleaned during our stay. We were told the HOA cleans them only four times a year. In an oceanfront unit with no A/C, salt buildup happens quickly, so the view windows should be cleaned before each guest arrival. Management explained the last time the windows/screens were cleaned was on June 13th.The linens, towels, and general housekeeping were acceptable. However, the tile floors and rubber mats need a deep scrub, the lanai cushions are worn and torn.Management acknowledged our concerns and made a few thoughtful gestures. This unit has excellent potential, but it needs more consistent maintenance and attention to detail to match its premium location.
