Great stay!

Great location. Friendly staff. Decent rooms. Super comfy beds! Restrooms are shared with just two or three other rooms, and they are cleaned daily & in good condition. Breakfast is good! Heads up— there are many flights of stairs depending on where your room is, but it’s not really an issue!

Good location, but staff were often absent so often not available to help with questions. Breakfast was nice, but started quite late and was in a rather small kitchen area. The room was nice with a large bed, but the duvet was too small for the bed.

Clean room, with interesting details, but with no view at all. Still, it was pleasant to stay with my wife and two small kids. Breakfast ok. Host helpful, English speaking. Bit hard to reach by car, you need to cruise couple inches away from restaurants tables and crowd, but parking lot close enough (charge 30 TL per day or better say half a day). Bunch of restaurants and cafes in the same street. Close to Galata bridge.

Good value for Central location

It is a budget accommodation with a central location. Five minutes walk to Galata, 3 minutes to tram station and just 2 minutes to a large tram station that brings you almost anywhere. The rooms and breakfast are quite basic though. Some rooms come without bathrooms so read carefully when booking. Cleanliness is moderate, provisions basic. But price and location is prime so depends on what you prioritize. We had a decently comfortable sleep, nothing to write home about other than that.

short stay for wedding anniversary

Everything was perfect. We knew the location in Karakoy beforehand, it's perfect for our needs in Istanbul, close to everywhere (old town, taksim, ferry, tram, etc.), and with a reasonable parking garage closeby as well. The hotel is very small, staff is very friendly. I had sent a brief message beforehand telling that our stay was for our anniversary and they put a rose in our room and did some nice heart arrangements with the towels. Also upon arrival staff was very helpful and friendly. The room was really spacious, nicely set up, very clean, bed comfortable, bathroom fine - so all in all, the stay was perfect. Also price is very reasonable. Thanks again, specifically to Lutfi and Ali! Best wishes

The hotel was perfectly fine, but nothing special. When we arrived they couldn't find the booking for a while which was slightly disconcerting, but got it in the end. Our room had quite a lot of mosquitos buzzing around that kept us up, netting would've been helpful.

Portus House seems to be somewhere between a hostel and a hotel. The staff was friendly and multilingual Our en-suite room was small for the price but clean. The neighborhood is in transition with good services, restaurants, markets and entertainment, and very handy to everything. For the money I expected the typical breakfast spread available at most hotels in Turkey, this one was modest but good. There is no laundry on site for guest use as the website says. Hot water was interrupted twice during our stay. Portus house might be a better value for families that need the extra beds and can share services.

A night stay before Black Sea Cruise

The only thing not so hot was our room was located at the 4th floor. They do help with luggage. Otherwise, it is quite a good location to explore old town. ( Need bring with you a lot of $ bills to tip. You don't have to, but being an American....) You will pass a hug supermarket /restaurants, before reach the B & B. It is not a walking distance to cruise port with luggage. They will call taxi for you and tell you not to pay more than 10TL a car no matter what the driver has to say (Good advice! The one we rode to the port gave the infamous reputation to Turkish Taxi Drivers! Pesky and greedy! Thank goodness the ride was short.).

The staff treated me well.

Portus is a small hotel in the Karakoy area. I like the location close to the Galata Bridge, the Bosphorus, and many of Istanbul's main attractions to visitors. The hotel doesn't have an elevator and that is a minus for the elder or the handicapped. Breakfast is very limited and the quality of the offering needs to be improved. Finally, I found the bed to be uncomfortable and the rooms exposed to noise both from the interior of the hotel and to the outside. I'd give it a 3 out of 5.
