Millennia ago, this is where Africa collided with Europe. The mountains to the left were formed by the collision, and the fertile (green) valley between the ridges was formed by deep sea deposits as the mountains on either side eroded and broke down. Pretty cool to see the stark difference in vegetation between the ridges and just outside of them.

There are signs to get you to this particular viewpoint, and an English description of the scene once you get here.
The beginning of #elcaminitodelrey in #elchorro. Some people says it's the most #dangerous #hike in the #world! Sadly we didn't make it before restoration. So we can't tell you. #troveron #spain #nature #travel #travelingtheworld #wanderlust
#Lake #EmbalseDelCondeDeGuadalhorce surrounded by the #beautiful #mountains. The popular #hiking route #ElCaminitoDelRey is located here, but is sadly under restoration. #travel #traveltheworld #wanderlust
View in El Chorro.
"The King's Little Pathway" spans the El Chorro gorge at a height of 100m. It was built in the early 1900s as an access path between nearby hydroelectric plants. The bridge got it's name in 1921 when King Alfonso XIII crossed it to help inaugurate a new dam.

The path rises to the bridge from either side of the gorge, snaking dramatically along the sheer cliff face. In recent years the path has been closed to all but rock-climbers, as many portions of the pathway had crumbled away.

However, the Spanish government recently completed a three-year restoration of the pathway, including guardrails, and it just opened yesterday - March 28, 2015! The 6€ entrance fee will be waived for the first six months, but you'll need to make reservations in advance: http://bit.ly/1BzhH8Y. Also, bear in mind that the path is one-way, so check the return bus schedule, or book a return crossing as well!

Lonely Planet has ranked the new pathway as one of the hottest new travel experiences for 2015. And finally, here is a link to a cool video of the restoration process: http://bit.ly/1vCkulv
