Other than its actual existence began in 1960, seemingly every other 'fact' about the Lake Placid Tower contains conflicting information.

It's either 240 ft or 270 ft tall. It's either made from concrete blocks, reinforced concrete, or limestone. It may or may not have been the world's greatest concrete block building when it opened.

The tower was built to capitalize on the 40 mile scenic view and the numerous lakes and caladium fields that surround Lake Placid, on the Central Florida Ridge.

The tower closed to visitors in the early 80's due to lack of interest. Ownership changed hands and the tower began receiving visitors a couple years later. The tower is closed seemingly for good as of sometime in the 2000's.

The structure that once touted the "highest payphone in Florida" now operates solely as a cell phone tower.
