The location was very convenient to northwestern university. The breakfast was very nice. But the room/suite was lacking. The bathroom was located off of one of the bedrooms so we all had to walk thru the bedroom to use it. The other bedroom should at least have a mirror so the other occupants can get ready outside of the bathroom. The overnight staff was very disappointing. We attended a theater production and came in after midnight. Our room key did not work to open the main door. The front desk staffed 24/7 did not answer our phone calls or the doorbell for 10-15 minutes. I had to walk around the outside of the building and look into the office where the front desk person was sitting there. Then she let us in.

Phenomenal hotel!! From the moment I walked in my room, I knew that this would be preferred choice for my next Chicago area visit. Great staff, especially the restaurant staff!! Beautiful property. Close to everything, including train!! Only cons: If you book through a 3rd party app (Expedia), let them know immediately or wake up to daily charges. Also, the $50 early check in fee... if my room is already ready, I don't understand the fee. Other than that, you'll have no regrets with The GEM of Evanston!!!

The staff was lovely. Housekeeping excellent and very clean. The lobby decor is clean but run down, like visiting tidy grandparents. It could easily be modernized but it’s a taste choice that feels budget conscious. It isn’t a luxurious experience but it is nice. Some renovation choices hard to understand- room layout e.g. Location suited me perfectly.

The location was very convenient, and the room was clean. The only challenge was controlling the room temperature, since there was only a fan without a timer or thermostat. On the positive side, the waitress at breakfast was super friendly and made the experience really pleasant.

Wonderful property with comfortable bed and pillows, freshly made breakfast and friendly staff. 2 things which could be corrected. The rooms were clean but the carpeting in the hallways were very dirty and the flooring in the elevator was very dirty and missing tiles which detracted from the overall impression. Also, blackout curtains are desperately needed. Otherwise, common areas in particular were beautiful and parking was easy!
