A unique "art museum" hotel set in historic buildings in colonial Charleston, the Vendue offers a mix of great experiences and significant challenges. The price you pay for the historic location, excellent service, rooftop bar and quality restaurant includes significant challenges to mobility-impaired customers. The uneven floors, steep staircases and lack of railings can make it difficult to move around the property for some unaware customers.

The hotel is quirky in a fun way. The art is loud and intense (and objectively bad, but still creates an uplifting atmosphere). The biggest issue is the staff. They were disorganized with checkin and sent me back and forth from their main hotel and their annex across the street. Then, at 1130pm the hotel decided to power wash their oven hoods. In the alley below my 2nd floor window. For 2 hours. The generator turning on and off, on and off. It was very loud and no sleep was happening. The phones in the room don’t function well, but I was eventually able to speak to the front desk, who confirmed what was happening. When I asked why they were doing it when people were trying to sleep, they said “well we had to do it when the restaurant was closed.” And when I asked why they were washing restaurant equipment in a back alley, there was no response. In the morning I learned that a lot of people had the same issue and there was yelling in the lobby. It’s just really careless for a hotel that costs this much.

Beautiful area, lots to see and do, easily walkable, carriage rides, bicycle racks, and Uber are also available. Everything was great, only minor downside was not having mini fridges in our room.

Best hotel in Charleston

Our stay was incredible. From the champagne at checkout, to the constant communication with the staff providing us with all our needs we have never stayed in such a place. My wife has a gluten free diet and they were able to provide her with a gluten free breakfast in the morning along with fruit and champagne. For her birthday they sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to the room which made the stay even more special. The hotel was walking distance from everywhere we needed to go, and when we did need our car for a few of our planned events, valet was extremely prompt. The room so so clean and comfortable and we especially enjoyed our jetted tub. Seriously. Do not stay anywhere else in Charleston. You won’t regret it.

My husband and I loved this hotel! It was cozy, clean, well maintained, decorated beautifully and included all of the perfect little touches that set it above most others. We enjoyed having the little breakfast bags delivered to our door each morning, as well as the turn down service each evening, complete with treats to wind down our day. There were always snacks in the lobby, and candies scattered around the hotel. We were offered a free bottle of wine or champagne upon our arrival as well as convenient valet parking. The in-house art gallery was filled with beautiful work from their resident artist, which we enjoyed during an afternoon walk. The staff was phenomenal! Everyone we met was friendly, helpful and always willing to accommodate with reservations or other needs. The location was perfect, right in the downtown area near restaurants and shops as well as the waterfront and fountains.If you have younger children you might prefer a more casual hotel with a pool, as this hotel is more appealing to adults seeking a quiet getaway. We will not hesitate to stay here again next time we are in Charleston!

Very cool art work everywhere, they also offer champagne or wine at registration and cookies at night. They go over. And above to make sure guests have whatever they need. Great location near the water and French Quarter shopping.

Great location just steps from Cooper River park and Rainbow Row, right in the Heart of historic Charleston. Great restaurants and galleries nearby and in the property. The room we stayed in was small, but comfortable. Staff is terrific, but no tip for the bellman who retrieved our stored bags but didn’t bring them out to the valet stand.
