Fantastic accommodations in a perfect location

This lovely hotel has wonderful staff, great restaurant choices, especially delicious (though pricey) breakfast and a central location very close to an in town shuttle stop. Rooms have a beautiful bathroom, tub, and the grounds have an indoor/outdoor pool and spa.

Sonnenalp

I've always wanted to stay at the  Sonnenalp. It is a great location for everything you want and need to do. Great walking distances for food/shops or if you don't want to walk the local Vail bus will pick you up in front of the hotel. The rooms were clean and had a great view. The staff is very pleasant and helpful. The breakfast buffet is one of the best we've eaten. The pool and two hot tubs are relaxing. We are returning next summer for sure and can't wait!!!

Warm and inviting hotel

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
I stayed at the Sonnenalp for a 3 day ski vacation in December, just before Christmas. All staff was very helpful. They have 3 restaurants, all very good with nice atmosphere, live music every night. The spa is very comfortable with indoor/outdoor pools and hot tubs. Our room had a gas fireplace that made it very cozy and warm. The only downside if you are there to ski is the 10 minute walk to the lifts or gondola. They do have a ski concierge next to the gondola for convenience.

It was offseason and you would think they would welcome the business....sadly they did not.

Pros: Close restaurants
Cons: Noisy
Swing and a miss for this hotel! It was the offseason between summer and ski season. I wanted a quick trip to Vail to spend some time with the family. I just got back from being away from family for 8 months after a military deployment. I had four requests that I asked for when I arrived. Nothing out of the ordinary: Can I get a different room not on the street side of the hotel (It's noisy on that side of the hotel)? No. Can I get an upgrade? No. Can I get a late checkout? No. I stopped to ask a waiter in one of the restaurants who was folding linens in an empty room a question. He could not have been any less helpful. I kept asking myself how everyone in this hotel could be any less helpful on a weekday in the middle of the offseason. I read all the reviews about how great this place was. But I did not get that from any of the employees. I did go into the Gym/Spa room to ask a few questions and they were pretty cool and helpful. It's ok; I took my money up the road to spend at a hotel that wanted my money during the offseason. Maybe I caught every person I spoke too at a bad time. Unfortunately a hotel that puts on a show just for the peak season guests will eventually run out of steam as others will eventually catch on to your act. Pass on this hotel. I know I will during ski season. At least, I didn't have to spend peak season prices to learn this lesson.

The Sonnenalp Resort is a fabulous hotel located in original VAIL.

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
As one of Leading Hotels in the World, this is a fabulous place near Gore Creek, surrounded by beautifulf Colorado trees. The buildings, amenities and grounds couldn't be finer if you appreciate older elegant properties. The staff has clearly been trained to exceed guests expectations. If you have an opportunity - stay at the Sonnenalp Resort of VAIL.

This hotel was so comfy and cozy

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet, super comfy bed
The hotel was absolutely beautiful. It was the perfect mountain hotel. They upgraded us to a small suite for one an extra 25$!! Our room was gorgeous, and so cozy, and romantic! Could not have asked for a better room. The view was amazing, and the bed was very comfy. I hadent slept that well in a long time! All in all we were very satisfied with the hotel & the room.

Staff are excellent on catering to every Have need

Pros: Close restaurants, Free Internet, Quiet
Have stayed at the Sonnenalp many times. Our wedding reception in summer of 1987 was in their back yard by the pool. They still do an excellent job with service and food but hotel is getting a litle worn and dated in places. Bed linens are wonderful.

This is a beautiful hotel and the off season rate was great. We really enjoyed our stay and the staff was always available and helpful from the car valet to the maid service. The spa and fitness were very friendly and helpful.
