It is a short walk to Strathfield Station, which allows rail access everywhere. To the Sydney metro lines snd country trains - within NSW and beyond. The combination of low cost and access are strong attractions for me.

We have stayed here a few times over the years when in Sydney although the hotel appears to have a new owner now. When we arrived we had to call the owner to access our room & he was unsure of our booking ( which we had booked & paid for a couple of hours earlier )..when I asked about breakfast I was informed that it's no longer included in the price although the website clearly says it does ! There were cups in the room although no teabags/coffee etc...the bathroom ceiling has lots of mould & there was a hair in the sink The outdoor area needs maintenance such as lawnmowing & there was an overflowing ashtray on the small table outside the kitchen which was gross ! Needless to say we will no longer recommend or book this hotel again

The location was easy. Checking in was easy, just ring the number. The gardens and outside was lovely. The inside was tired, the dinning area was very dusty. Our room, the skirting boards, cornices were very dusty and cobwebs, you could open the window but chose not to as dirty and dusty, the white curtain was dirty. The bathroom was annoying for us as the floor was always wet as the shower was open to the room. Please also maintain the mould situation in the bathroom,it is not good.

We were attending a concert at Homebush. It was a 5 minute stroll to the train station and then an easy train journey to the stadium. The local shops are terrific with great cafes and eateries. It felt very safe to walk from the station late at night. The building itself is a former grand home with an ugly /70's or 80's add on. The original part of the building is furnished with antiques and is quiet, spacious and very clean. I would have no hesitation in staying again in our room which had an ensuite and was generously proportioned. The bed was very comfortable and we were able to have it nicely heated. It represents great value price wise given how handy it is to the station and the local village shops.

Comfortable hidden gem

Easy check in, place was very vintage and charming looking. We were on the upper level and there is a lift. Room was spacious and quite comfortable. Shower was good. Parking onsite. Overall a very good experience.

An email was sent to avoid this, however after no response, it will be put here that no dining was available, WiFi didn’t work, room cards were left out for anyone to walk in and take. The staff took it upon themselves to enter the room while we were sleeping and woke us up to tell us we were checking out. Still had close to an hour left until check out, this was very unpleasant and unprofessional. The main entry is also left ajar all night….

I really wanted to like this place but I can’t get past how dirty I felt leaving. The building itself is lovely and has a lot of history just no upkeep to keep it clean. The blankets and bedspreads need to be washed and donated to a shelter for the winter they have water stains on them and stains in general just not something you want to pay money and sleep under, the beds need chucking on the tip you can feel every spring and have a hollow even when made up. The black cushion covers are gross, the window didn’t close properly and there were small cockroach's running everywhere. The place smells like mould and wet carpet rolled up in a walkway with a fan on it. The place has good bones, the dining area was dust free but I didn’t use the kitchen so can’t comment. I hope the place gets the clean up it deserves because the location is quiet, good parking and rich history. But currently I felt like I slept in the same beds that were there when it was a nursing home/hospital and the floor mats need cleaning they could talk ! Sorry but it could be so much better.
