A few days before our vacation, the host texted us our room number and confirmed that our room would be overlooking the water. When our family arrived at the front desk, they gave us the keys and we walked in on other people who were currently staying in that room. We texted the host and they eventually gave us a different room for that night, with a view of the parking lot. After asking the host when we could move into the room that we booked, they responded the next day saying we could move in later that day. We were hoping to enjoy the rest of our vacation, but that wasn't the case. Two days later, a couple walked into our room while we were changing for dinner and said that they had booked this room. The host did not give any explanations about why this was happening and gave the couple the room overlooking the parking lot. For the rest of the vacation, our family feared that someone would walk in on us again, or our things may be stolen when we left the room. It was surprising that the front desk gave the room keys to anyone who asked, even when other people were staying in the room. The host offered us a refund and confirmed it several times through text and also to Vrbo, but they did not send us any refund at all. St. Maarten is a lovely island that I would highly recommend visiting, but I would not stay at this property again.
