It is a classic property that has been renovated and is unique to the area. There was no breakfast included, but the courtyard area and property grounds are very inviting.

The hotel is really a bad motel that should not be recommended to anyone

Cons: dirty, unprofessional staff, shirts stained, drug motel
We booked this because it looked like it had good reviews. When I arrived at 11pm, the front desk person was not very professional and I notice drug dealers out front, so I asked to see the room. I walked in and the room smelled of bug stray and I saw a dead roach in the bathroom. The bedspread was badly stained and the carpet was really dirty. I left my family in the car and I could not subject them to this kind of motel. The staff refused to provide a refund and was not apologetic at all. I would not recommend this motel to anyone. I have travelled to many countries and stayed in many different types of places with bugs, but I will not stay in a place that is dirty, unsafe and not well maintained. Not sure what rooms these other reviewers had!!

Great alternative to boring monolith across the street

I attended a conference that took place at the Riverside Marriott across the street, which I'm sure is a perfectly nice hotel, but I'm so glad I chose to stay at the Santa Cruz instead. First of all, it was half the price. It's directly across the street from the Marriott, with a crosswalk conveniently located. The hotel itself is rather charming-- it's clearly a historic property, with pretty archways, Spanish styling, and a few bubbling fountains for ambience. My room was small but perfectly adequate with minifridge and microwave. It was very clean. The staff was very nice-- friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The housekeeper checked in with me personally about whether to change my sheets, which I appreciated since changing sheets every day is just plain stupid. I had a tiny balcony with double doors, which was too small for lounging on but perfect for letting in the southern california breezes. The hotel is located on a busy street, which did make the morning and evening hours a bit noisy, but downtown Riverside is pretty dead at night so it was very quiet during sleeping hours. The Sta Cruz is a couple of blocks from the pedestrian walkway downtown, and just around the corner from the Mission Inn. There's a CVS next door and a Starbucks 1/2 block north. In short, if you're the type who wants a room that is identical in every way to thousands of others across the country, then stay at the Marriott. But if you appreciate something a little different, where the owners are local and work hard to keep up their historic hotel, then try the Santa Cruz. You'll be glad you did.

Weekend in Riverside

No problems. Very close to downtown by my standards; walked to everything. Good wifi. Didn't try their breakfast.

I really enjoyed my stay

I loved the old time look - it was like stepping back in time. Nothing needed improvement other than the rooms needing coffee. Thank you very much - I have enjoyed my stay @ Santa Cruz Inn. I was lookin for something just like this - quite tucked away, very peaceful; and homelike; or like a getaway

Don't judge a book by its cover

I liked the historic features and nearness to the county buildings and courthouses. I needed a place to stay on arrival from Ontario Airport. Very clean rooms. Staff very polite and caring. Loved the coffee machine choices - self serve - excellent. Don't judge a book by its cover!!

Welcoming staff and great location

I love the nature type surroundings, architecture, gardens and downtown area. Nothing I saw needed improvement. Staff were very welcoming, polite. I definitely would recommend this place to anyone. When back in the country would definitely stay here again. Everything was so nice.

Great Stay!

The history and the care thwt went into the renovation is great! The breakfast and drink machine was really handly to have, there wasn't anything that I can think of that needed fixing (recently renovated) it was very personalized and comforting service.

Great service

The proximity to the Marriot and Convention Center was great, I loved the rustic architecture and charm. I had a flat tire and Fred was friendly and helpful, he went out of his way to find a tire service station for me to take my vehicle for repair. I felt like the staff cared about the level of service rendered.
