Do not stay here. We had a terrible experience at the Waterfront Hotel. We were not checked into one of our rooms until 4 hours after our planned check in time to find one of our rooms had been smoked in the previous night and the other smelling of mold & metals. The management on staff that night was incredibly rude and unhelpful in every way possible. We travel all over the world and the worst service we have ever experienced was in our own backyard, very disheartening.

We did address your concerns and did the best we could. I am sorry that was apparently not enough. We do hope next time you are in the area you will give us another chance.

I liked the location on the water and Jack London Square. The view was spectacular. The staff was nice. I did not like the fact that check-in took a very long time and our room was not ready and we had to wait nearly an hour for our room. We could not get into our room until 6 pm. That was just not acceptable.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to let us know how your recent stay went. It is only through guest feedback that we can truly improve our product and service. We are sorry for the late check in. If we are short staffed in housekeeping the cleaning of the room will end up being completed later in the day as happened in your case. Thank you for your comments and business. We do hope to see you again soon!

Nice property. Some of the homeless in the area made walking at night a little scary.

Nice facility. Beautiful surroundings. A little scary with vagrants walking about.

Loud train kept us awake at night, requested change and staff did not help. Air Conditioning did not work - requested repair and it was not done. Gave us 3 decaf coffee for coffee maker (instead of usual 2 caffeinated, 1 decaf). Bed fair at best.

A prepaid reservation at this hotel is meaningless. If you don’t want to stay at a cheap hotel in Berkeley, stay somewhere elsewhere. I booked a suite at this hotel 2 months ago and pre-paid for it via Travelocity. My sons were going back to college next week and I planned a last fun weekend attending a tournament at the Oracle Arena (we’re from Portland, OR). My sons don’t like sleeping in the same bed with each other. So I booked a suite. Two queen beds and a hide a bed couch, everyone gets a bed. Nice restaurants nearby, Ben and Jerry's for dessert, it was going to be a fun weekend. When I arrived the hotel said they were overbooked. The manager showed little emotion and said that they had booked a room for me at a hotel 20 minutes away (in Berkeley) that they would pay for. It’s was an economy hotel. On Travelocity the room they put me in was $130 a night. It was a tiny room with two FULL sized beds (not queen) and a bathroom so small it could have been in an RV, and a lovely view of a parking lot. I would have much rather stayed at a Holiday Inn. At this point, who do you complain to? The new hotel, it’s not their fault, they’re an economy hotel. That’s the rooms they have. The Waterfront hotel, they’re 20 minutes away, and the manager clearly didn’t care. I heard one of my son’s tell the other, “Well, it’s only for a night, let’s just get through it”. This is not the weekend I had planned when I reserved my $400 suite at the Waterfront.

Great location, Can't Wait to Return

Pros: Convenient location to my needs. Even thought they have in and out valet parking ($30 per night) I was able to walk to good restaurants and sights.
Cons: I think the soap and lotion had a weird smell.
Location: Everett & Jones BBQ, a good Chicken and Waffles place; Yoshi's, a music venue ... all walking distance. A lovely Farmers Market on Sunday.
My 3rd time at the hotel. Convenient location within walking distance from some good restaurants, and a movie theater. The hotel restaurants are nice, good food, friendly and responsive staff. Delicious hot fresh coffee in the lobby each morning. I wasn't there for the Happy Hour but they said they have wine and cheese in the afternoons. The rooms are clean, they provide ear plugs which is always an uh-oh, but they are near a train track. And I could sometimes hear other guests closing doors or speaking in the hall, but it was not a problem at all. I didn't need the ear plugs. The room has a Keurig coffee pot in case of emergency and you can't get to the lobby which seems to also have Keurig available at all times and that fresh coffee that comes out at 6 am.
