Pros: The staff was nice.
Cons: Cleaner bedrooms, cleaner bathroom, new linens and blankets!
Location: within walking distance from the Bronx Zoo.
Room was DISGUSTING! There was no blanket on our bed when we got there, the sheet had holes in it. We asked for a blanket from the front desk and it was covered in cigarette burns. The subway is literally on top of the building and goes through about every 15/20 minutes AND ALL NIGHT LONG. TV goes in and out, turns off randomly and then turns back on. Bathroom was dirty and covered in hair. There was no trash can. Breakfast is in the dirty/dingy basement. Too expensive for what you get. I booked it because I thought it would be convenient to be so close to Yankee Stadium when we were going to a game, but it still took about 20 minutes to get around the city.

Hotel smelled terrible, we had ants, roaches, and a mouse in our room, the cable in our room didn't work and they would not let us switch rooms.

Convenient location, but questionable neighborhood

Pros: Convenient location, parking available, good value
Cons: Update bed clothes, better cable signal, better wi-fi
We chose this hotel because of it's value, location, and parking availability. It is right next to the subway station on the 2 and 5 lines. However, the neighborhood is a bit rough around the edges, though I did not spend much time walking around. There was parking, but only about 5 tight spots behind the hotel. We were lucky enough to get a space. While we were there, I noticed usually one to two spots remained available, so maybe there is always availability? There is free breakfast, which was decent. In addition to cereals and pastries, there was also eggs and sausages available. The hotel itself was updated in some respects, and old and run down in others. The TV was a small flat screen, but the cable signal was spotty, which was irritating. Everything was mostly clean. The bed comforters were threadbare and need to be replaced.

Pros: The close proximity to many places that I wanted to visit, eg The Bronx Zoo and The Botanical Gardens just to name a couple, and the parking areas.
Cons: Everything else
Location: Its a bad location. There is an elevated train track right outside the hotel. and one can hear the train all day and all night. Since New York has 24.
This hotel was very disappointing to me. In past years I had always admired the rooms at Howard Johnson facilities, but this place on Boston Road, in the Bronx, is downright terrible. It has a very strong order of stale cigarettes, from the entrance throughout all the floors, and the carpets appeared to be filthy. I am not sure, whether the reason for that is due to the low rates offered, but I would never recommend anyone to stay at that place. That was a mistake made on my part to stay there. I think I will be sick from the smell that is a constant reminder in my nostrils up to this day.

You don't even get what you pay for!!

DO NOT BOOK THIS HOTEL!! The shower head visibly had built-up lime and/or mold on it. The window could not lock b/c it appeared to be installed incorrectly. We took pictures of both to prove it. The bed had a flat sheet tucked under to serve as a fitted sheet so, of course, it never stayed put. Also, don't make the mistake of letting the temperature in the room fall below 60 degrees. Then the true smell of the room seeps out!! It smelled of urine. The astonishing fact is that this was the Business Class room, the most expensive room they offer!! Also, we were outright accused of having more than 2 adults in our room simply b/c we requested more than 2 towels per day! Another rude employee told me that were only allowed one shower per day. He stated that the hotel was privately owned and did not have to abide by Howard Johnson's standards. We were denied access to the general manager. After being lied to twice about when the manager will be on the property, I demanded an explanation. I was told that we had no reason to complain, so the message was not forwarded to the manager. This rude employee, as an afterthought, told me that she knew that she should not have given us the room when we checked in!! Her comment must have been based on appearance alone, b/c we didn't run into a problem until maybe the third day, when we were denied more towels. This ruined our New York experience.

You get what you pay for

The room is ok for a quick shower before your night out on the town and a good night sleep when you get back. If you are looking for frills (of any kind), don't book here. My husband and I both said we would stay again (you can't beat the price). But I will not show up without my portable candles...............................and a can of lysol.

Pretty Good for the Rate I paid.

Okay, it's not the Ritz but for $90/night it's an EXCELLENT value. The hotel is small but has all the amenities you would expect from a 3-star. The breakfast wasn't much (tea, juice, muffin, cookies and bread...not even toast) but for the price that's alright. It was a 2 minute walk across to the subway which does run adjacent to the building. When you check in be sure to ask the front desk person for a room on the other side of the building. I felt safe in the hotel and the neighbourhood isn't shady like others make it sound because I was getting in at 3am. The only issue I had was on my last day because the corridor leading to the storage room for my luggage had a very wet carpet but since I was leaving and not staying on that floor it never cause me a problem. I'd definitely stay there again for the price and value.
