Tiny rooms. Great location. Good short-term value.

Hostal Avenida has an excellent location in downtown Madrid, with the city sights on your doorstep. Staff are very friendly and helpful. The one downside is that the rooms are, shall we say, efficient. Another way to put that is "small." If you need room to stretch out, do some yoga, pace the floor or even sort through your luggage, it won't be in this hotel. But for one or two nights, this is a great value.

Very happy, a great stay

This was a great stay, right on the Grand Via, easy to reach by the metro and close to many points of interest. The room was tiny but that was expected. It was perfectly fine for one person however. There was a small balcony that overlooked the Grand Via. It was very clean. The walls are a bit thin so there was a bit of sound from their neighbors but it wasn't a problem. The only thing missing was some way to boil water in the am for tea or coffee. Overall, I'd highly recommend it.

Lovely

My friends and I spent two nights here for our Spain Winter trip. It were the last few days so we were super exhausted and drained. But the reception is soooooooo nice to us. Super helpful. Even helped us print our boarding passes heheh. The location is in Gran Via which is awesome. So near to subway station. The only minus is the creaky floor. But it doesnt affect us that much. Overall a nice experience :)

Great for those on a budget.

This hostel is very well located in the heart of Madrid's shopping district. The main entrance/lobby is clean and impressive. This particular hostel is on the forth floor of the building. The staff are friendly, helpful and welcoming. The room we stayed in was basic but very clean and tidy. The bathroom was as nice as in any 4/5 star hotel and must have been recently refurbished as it looked brand new. There was no noise or disturbances during our stay and as simply "somewhere to sleep", it was just the job.

A nice Hotel in a busy road of Gran Via

Easy to access public transportation.. Many choices of spainish crusine. are available. I engaged four whole day excursion, especially to tour the historical cities, such asToledo, Avila, Segovia, I took an excursion from Madrid to Gibratar.

Great location!

Great location on Gran Via. Small but clean. Everything we needed for our stay but didn't spend much time in room. Street noise at night, but expected when in such a popular area. Not too fancy but completely adequate. Would recommend to others who just want a place to sleep and shower while exploring the area.

Great location & it had free wifi, however the standard of the hostal was much poorer than I anticipated. Worst is the noise, there is a loud doorbell to enter the reception which makes an alarming sound frequently from 8am - 11pm. The walls are thin and you can hear footsteps and chatter from the sides and floors above and below. I felt mislead by the photos of the rooms, my window looked into the dark well of the building. The safe in the room requires €1 coin every time you wish to open it. English was difficult but we got by. In my opinion it's not worth saving a small amount of money for such a sad experience of accommodation for such a magnificent city as Madrid. It spoilt it a bit.

Sadly minimal English from staff, however they made up for it with great enthusiasm and willingness to help. The room was very small, but this was expected of the price. Generally a great base to explore Madrid, particularly so close to the gran via metro and sol/cueca.

Receptionist is friendly; it's right on Gran Via its in the center, couple of minutes of walking to Puerta del Sol, Atocha, Palacio Real; shopping, cafeterias, restaurants everything is very close. Rooms are being cleaned, change of towels and bed setting. If you need anything receptionist will assist you. I asked for a taxi going to the airport they'll call the cab and he will come up to the room and will help you with luggage. I needed an iron they friendly handed it to me. If you don't know how to get somewhere ask for directions they'll explain it to you. I loved Madrid, beautiful city and sweet, open, very friendly people. Enjoy!
