Our room was a good size, clean and the bed comfortable and large (queen.) The room needed an arm chair and was certainly large enough for that. We did not find the kitchen to be well equipped, just the bare minimum. The only kitchen knife was a (dull) paring knife: not even a bread knife. There were just two of everything: 2 forks, 2 teaspoons, two plates etc. There is a detailed inventory of equipment that you are supposed to verify so it’s not that a previous guest had taken items. The two cups were tiny ( maybe 150 ml) and the glasses were juice glasses (175 ml). Anyway if you plan to do anything than get take out or microwave soup and drink straight from cans or bottles you’ll find it a poor setup .
The area around the Part Dieu station is a bit manic and not inviting (beware of the scooters) but the area immediately around the hotel is fine. There are a good bakery and butcher plus several smaller grocery stores but not much in the way of dining or drinking options.
