Classy beautiful hotel that offers much charm!

Pros: Lots of older charm with all amenities. Very clean - friendly staff.
Cons: N/A
Location: We enjoyed walking downtown from the Hotel.
We checked into The Brown Hotel and were very impressed with our room. It was beautifully decorated and very clean. It is located close to downtown so were able to enjoy walking in Louisville instead of having to drive there. We had a fun waitress in the lobby at the bar and she explained different bourbons to us. Enjoyed dinner at the English Grill. The Hot Brown was not what I expected, yet was DELICIOUS!

Great 4th of July Weekend!

This hotel was awesome. It's beautiful and historic inside and the rooms are very comfortable. The rooms are updated nicely without sacrificing style. The hotel staff was unfailingly nice and super quick with any assistance needed. The stay overall was fabulous.

Well kept historic hotel, grossly understaffed.

This was my first stay at the Brown. My girlfriend and I arrived to find only one valet running a very busy Thursday afternoon. After waiting for 15 minutes or so a friendly apologetic attendant informed us that two other employees called in. The hotel is gorgous and well kept as we arrive at the front desk, my girlfriend and I are greeted warmly by the front desk concierge. Again, only one person working the desk and a very congested lobby. Get to the room and it is what one would expect from a hotel of the Browns age and stature. Very clean and well kept. The room was modern enough to be luxurious yet retained the character the hotel is famous for. I called the front desk three times without any answer. (I honestly can't remember what I needed now) I had dinner reservations at The English Grille. This was one factor for which I chose the Brown. We arrived promptly at out reserved time. No surprise here but there was no one to greet or seat us. Finally, our server as it turned out, came to the hostess stand and seated us at our table. Service and food were exceptional. The restraunt was fairly slow so I can't say it would have been as remarkable on a busier evening. Without picking apart every detail. This is how our two nights at the hotel went, you cannot reach anyone at the desk and often not in person in a timely manner, when you do the service is friendly. Don't expect to be wowed though.

This is a reason to be in Louisville

I booked a room for 3 nights for business and ended up staying an extra two nights for pleasure.  Staying at the Brown was an absolute delight.  It's comparable to really good hotels in San Francisco and New York.  They have hit the mark perfectly for a boutique hotel.  It's an older building so there are aspects that reflect the vintage, both great and small.  The lobby is amazing, classy, and comfortable.  You can have a drink, a meal, casual conversation, and anything in between.  The formal dining room is classy but not pretentious.  The rooms are a little small as you would expect for a hotel built in the 1920's for 4 million dollars.  (No chump change then.)  They are comfortable, quiet, and pleasant.   I can't even list all of the things I liked here.  The food in the English Room was superb.  The "Hot Brown" aka a heart attack on a plate, a dish conjured up for late night dancers in the 20's is ok and everything it's advertised.  Forget it.  Instead go with the current menu - it's fantastic. The Chef here is worthy of a James Beard award.  The seared watermelon salad with mushroom mousse, beets, and greens was to die for.  I'm from Alaska originally and VERY picky about fish.  The halibut was superb.  I ordered it because the meal I had there the night before was sublime.  I was upgraded to a Club room because the hotel was full.  Beautiful array of breakfast items, great coffee.  Sodas and mixers available until 10 pm.  Chummy happy hour with wine and beer in the evening.  The concierge set up the food service in the Club room and made extra arrangements and suggestions right there.  She got me in to an overbooked inside tour of Churchill Downs.  There was absolutely nothing that this staff wouldn't do.  I used the business center at 3 am, the Restaurant Manager made sure my visit was perfect, the Chef came out with personal recommendations, the bellmen made sure I got their free shuttle where I needed to go for a business meeting.  I had NO desire to go to Kentucky but I would go back just to stay here.  Want to be treated like a rock star?  Stay at the Brown Hotel.  It's a bit of magic.
