Great location, just a block from the main Metro line, north of downtown but just south of the Imperial Palace, and just east of Nijo Castle; an easy walk to top eateries, shops, and temples, and easy bus or train to anywhere in the area. Lovely modest facility, at very reasonable prices, with friendly staff offering excellent service, including in English. Rooms were small (as are most in this densely settled country), but quite comfortable. Many pleasant surprises, like free daily shuttles to and from top area sites (Kinkaku-ji / Golden Palace shrine, and Arashiyama's bamboo forests and Tenryu-ji temple), and a free tasting of three kinds of sake each evening. We had a great stay; strongly recommend.

I stayed at this hotel during a business trip. The price was quite low, but the room, facilities, and overall atmosphere felt top-class. I’m not sure why it was so inexpensive, but it was an excellent value. I would definitely recommend staying here.

Great customer service the second we stepped foot into the hotel. They had complimentary sake drinks during the evenings. Great breakfast spread and location was super convenient to train and buses. Will definitely stay in the future again.

This is one of the few hotels that contacted me about a problem with the reservation. When traveling with children from the US, Expedia should add that children in the US is not the same as in Japan, in every hotel I had the same problem, the charged me to change my room, and it ended up being really expensive, like the charge was for another room instead of just adding a person (my daughter is 15), when this was the sites fault not mine. In this case, the hotel emailed me before I arrived to make the new reservation, and I appreciated it that.
