Quaint Cabin in the Heart of the Black Hills

Grandma's house is approximately 800 square feet. It has a back bedroom with a queen size bed and its own back door. The adjacent sleeping area has 2 twin beds.. The large living area contains a dining table, 2 couches and a queen size bed and tv. The kitchen is equipped with all kinds of dishes and cooking utensils, and a propane barbecue grill is available for outside cooking. The bathroom has a tub/shower combination and towels and linens are provided. There is a screened in porch on the front of the older part of the house which is shaded by two huge spruce trees. It is a wonderful place to enjoy a meal or just relax and listen to the creek babble by. Deer and turkey visit the yard often and can be viewed from any window in the house. Adjacent to the house is what we call the bunkhouse. It has one side that was once a one car garage. It is simply used for storage. The other side is mostly being used for storage and has extra beds just in case the need arises. The property has two sheds used primarily for horses, but could offer motorcycle protection as well.
This is a non-smoking home. Friends are welcome to smoke outside. Pets are considered on a case by case basis, and must be approved by owner and/or manager. Pet fee is determined by type and number of pets. It could be less or more than $75.
This home has been recently renovated. While the basic floor plan remains the same, the flooring, wall and ceilings surfaces are all new. Grandma's house is sporting all new roof, windows, blinds, paneling, vinyl and laminate flooring and more. The bathroom has been enlarged and now includes a full size washer and dryer. The little house was already adorably quaint. We hope you will find it even more delightful now. Grandma’s House is available for longer stays November thru April. Send inquiry using unbooked dates to contact host.

Disliked: Cleanliness
This property is relatively convenient for accessing the Black Hills motorized trails, and the outdoor space is beautiful, broad, and quiet, with early morning visits from deer and turkey. The groundskeeper was also very kind and provided a hose so I could wash my dirt bike — a thoughtful touch.Unfortunately, the home does suffer from some significant drawbacks. Others have mentioned it — the odor. It is real, it is persistent, and it is insidious. To combat this, I recommend at least three scented plugins and three scented candles running at all times without interruption. In addition, the place is plagued by flying and crawling pests, the Wi-Fi is slow (though usable), the single window-unit AC might work if you close the kitchen door and only occupy the living/sleeping area, but it is underpowered for cooling the entire space, and the place desperately needs a deep clean (don’t dare a glance into the slotted vents). If you only care about proximity to the trails and seclusion, this spot is convenient. But if you’re looking for a comfortable, clean stay with reliable amenities, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Family Trip to Black Hills

This was a little slice of heaven. Set back from the town in the hills, but only a 3 minute drive to the main road and stores, this cabin and surrounding land offered tranquility, peace and quiet. You can tell the home is steeped in love and years of family history. Everything was clean and very well stocked, including actually having good, sharp kitchen knives! That's a small perk, but as someone who stays in rentals often and is used to old, worn out utensils, that was a treat in itself and just one example of the care that has gone into this home. The beds were comfy, having laundry and TV streaming services accessible was convenient, and the screened in porch was the perfect place for morning coffee, watching the deer and all kinds of birds, and taking in an epic Black Hills hail/thunder storm! Communication with both Cody and Meghan were effortless. Our family of 5 thoroughly enjoyed this little cabin and the quiet and rest it offered us after our days of adventuring in the Black Hills!

Quiet getaway

Older cabin that has been updated as a vacation rental property. On arrival, 2 of our party noticed an odor and started having headaches and nausea that resulted from some plug-in air fresheners - we removed them and opened all windows and rest of stay was fine. This was an ok place for us, though because the beds, except for one, occupy same living space as the kitchen and living room, it wasn't very restful for most of usLocation was nice and central for Black Hills exploring and we had elk in the backyard one morning!

Secluded getaway

Property is very private! Very little traffic goes by. Located only a few minutes from Hill City, with a grocery store and shops. Deer are very frequent and we even seen some big elk in front yard. Property was perfectly suited for our family of four, but would easily accommodate 6 or more.

Cozy Cabin in Great Location

The cabin was very close to Hill City, but far enough out of town to be peaceful and quiet. The stargazing at night was amazing. The host was very quick to answer any questions, and the check in and check out was easy. Thanks for the great experience!

Another great stay

This was our second stay at Grandma’s House. It was great again. It had everything we needed, except for a hose to wash our motorcycle. We contacted the property manager, Meghan, and she went above and beyond by bringing us one. All we really asked for was an outdoor spigot for water access. So great! Peaceful and quiet. We had coffee every morning at the front porch.

Fun just outside Hill City, SD

The description was accurate for the cabin and the setting was perfect for what we wanted. We had 6 of our grandchildren and do an "adventure" every year. We loved hiking behind the cabin, set up a tent for the boys, and had a great time sitting under the stars at night. Thank you.

BEST VACATION EVER!

This was our first time visiting South Dakota. The house was perfect for the 2 of us and our doggie. The house & property were well maintained, very clean, well stocked, beautiful location, quiet and still close to town (Hill City). The property own communicated very well and was always available to answer questions in a timely manner. We would HIGHLY RECOMMEND this house to anyone wanting to visit the area. We would DEFINITELY stay here again when we visit in the future. Thank you Cody & "Grandma's House" for the most amazing vacation we have ever had!!

Nice secluded cabin

We enjoyed our stay at Grandma’s house. It is a bit off the beaten path and secluded but easily accessible from Hill City and the surrounding attractions. Everything you’d need is provided. We were out and about exploring the area so didn’t actually spend much time relaxing there. Plenty of space for parents & 2 teenagers with room to spare. Nice to have full sized washer & dryer as well as WiFi available. Can tell this place is loved by family!

Beautiful Location

It was a nice cabin in a beautiful location. I only dinged it because WiFi was very slow. If you are traveling with children, please be aware that there are only 2 or 3 channels. However, there are lots of deer families and wild turkeys and even a couple of cats that pass through every morning and evening to provide entertainment. Beds were extremely comfortable as was the furniture. Kitchen has everything you need. Hiking trails are close and downtown Hill City is only a mile and a half away - though you couldn’t tell because you are far from the main road. I would not hesitate to return.

Relaxing week

The location was excellent. We had plenty of privacy to relax, but Hill City was not very far away so we could go into town for supper or to visit the unique shops. The house was far enough off the road that any traffic that went by did not bother us at all. We had everything we needed and the house was clean. Deer in the yard - very cool. Jeannie was excellent to work with and we always felt we could contact her easily if we needed to - but we did not need to because all went well. Cody was very easy to work with also. We had to change our dates and he was very accommodating and helpful. We will stay again. Wonderful time.
