"I stayed at this hotel in April and was charged a $50 deposit. More than a month later, I realized the deposit had not been returned. When I contacted the hotel, I was told it was being kept due to an alleged smoking violation. I do not smoke and strongly dispute this claim. When I asked for documentation or an explanation, I was told the room had been inspected by management and allegedly smelled of smoke. I was also told that an email had been sent, but I never received any notification regarding this issue. What was most disappointing was the way my concerns were handled. During the conversation, I was told that the manager “didn’t care” and was asked why I wanted the money back since it was “only $50.” I was also told that I should be glad it wasn’t the larger smoking fee listed in the hotel’s policy. Regardless of the amount, $50 is still my money, and I believe customers deserve respectful treatment when asking about charges on their account. I understand hotels have policies, but customers also deserve professionalism, transparency, and documentation when money is withheld. Based on my experience, I would encourage future guests to carefully review any deposits or fees charged during their stay and keep records of all communications."
