We have traveled all over Europe and never experienced this type of treatment. We were not told at check-in that this may occur and never dreamed of purchasing repellent from a vending machine. They do not care about their guests or their comfort and their lack of empathy is appalling. Even worse Expedia was not willing to offer compensation besides a $25 one key credit. We are no longer customers of Expedia and highly recommend travelers avoid this hotel at all costs. Shame on you Gateway Ghent and Expedia for not providing a safe experience for your guests. Hotels Response: (I understand that it is unpleasant to be bitten by insects during your stay; however, we believe this is characteristic of the current season. Because we are fully aware of this issue, we provide a stock of protective sprays in our vending machines. In this case, we do not feel that compensation is applicable.
