The best hotel stay I’ve ever had. Beautiful and quiet lobby, lots of settings and areas to sit, very polite staff all around, and clean, comfortable, room with an amazing view of the Mississippi River. I would recommend this hotel to everyone who likes a clean, pleasant and wonderful hotel stay!

The front desk needs to be more professional and could of used more help. Seemed lacking in how to greet customers. The hotel itself was excellent when it came to being clean, smelled fresh, accessible. Caroline's restaurant was great. The food was delicious and pricing was very reasonable. Jason, one of the servers was excellent, attentive, friendly but professional, and on top of things. He really helped start off our day. Went to Caroline's twice and took an order home, which Jason timed perfectly for our departure. TY

Not worth it. After staying in a different, lower rate and cheaper establishment in Dubuque last time we visited, we thought we'd try a this beautiful old hotel. We regretted it. Check-in was very disappointing: not only was our room nor ready at check-in due to a "system" issue (everyone else in line had a room ready), but the response of the staff was less than accommodating: we were told to come back in 15-20 minutes, which we did, to wait in line again, to be told the same thing again. After waiting in line three times for 45 minutes, we were finally able to check-in. After expressing disappointment, I was told they'd make a note for the manager about the issue. I've heard nothing. Our room was on the 5th floor, street side, and the bass from a nearby bar kept us up till bar time. Overall negative experience and would not recommend.

The Hotel Julian is 110 years old but scrupulous maintenance and tasteful updates have retained the feeling of being in a GRAND HOTEL there along the Mississippi River. The staff were wonderful, They obviously are dedicated to making sure hotel guests are well provided for, given full attention, and their needs efficiently addressed. Great place--will easily remain in my memory for its uniqueness.

The room was fairly clean and comfortable. Work needs to be done on the windows and window coverings. They were not clean and tattered. The hotel has the potential to be a high end hotel. It is beautiful in many ways but there is a lack of attention to detail and staff need some training in high end hospitality.
