The House of Pebbles

The characteristic Casa dei Ciottoli, entirely covered with small stones of sea and river, is located in the center of Castelnuovo Cilento, a medieval village in the heart of the Cilento National Park at 280 meters above sea level. The village enjoys a dominant position and a fantastic view of the Alento Valley and the Cilento coast. The house is the work of the peasant architect Guerino Galzerano who in the same village has realized with the same technique three other sites: the garden under the Tower, Santa Caterina and his tomb.

The house has been recently and completely renovated with quality materials and is spread over 2 levels and is as follows: balcony with separate entrance, large living room with kitchenette, 2 bedrooms, two bathrooms and a comfortable loft 20 sqm with sofa bed. The property is completed by a splendid 16 sqm terrace with a fantastic view of the sea and surrounding valley as well as the medieval tower of the country. The house is equipped with every comfort and can accommodate up to 4 people.

Staying at the Casa dei Ciottoli, far from the stress of the city, allows the imagination to amplify and rediscover the simple gestures of every day. In the summer, the town is populated with various events, among which Castrum Novum stands out for the staging of a historical re-enactment in the fascinating location of Castelnuovo Cilento Castle and allows you to taste the typical Cilento products at the various food and wine stands. The feast of the patron saint of the village, Santa Maria Maddalena, is also very heartfelt.

The house is just a few kilometers from the blue sea of Casalvelino Marina, Ascea, Pioppi (home of the Mediterranean Diet) and Acciaroli (the town of centenarians), and less than an hour's drive from the coasts of the myth of Palinuro and Marina di Camerota. Less than 8 kilometers from the apartment are the archaeological excavations of Elea, the ancient Greek city that gave birth to Parmenides and Zeno. Famous for its Porta Rosa, which includes the only classical Greek arch that has survived in perfect condition, Elea is also composed of the Acropolis and the remains of a small theater dating back to the 4th century BC. C. still today scene of theatrical performances.

A few kilometers from the magnificent sea of Cilento, spectacular peaks set in the territory offer the other side of the tourist offer: Mount Gelbison is a particularly sought after destination to recover contact with nature. A little further away, between the valleys of the Sele and the Tanagro, stand out the silhouettes of the Alburni mountains, the Dolomites of Cilento, full of caves and caves ideal for nature walks and trekking.

Castelnuovo Cilento is also the starting point of the Via Silente, a magnificent bike route of about 600 km that crosses the entire territory of the National Park of Cilento, Vallo di Diano and Alburni.

Highly, highly recommended!
If you plan on traveling to Castelnuovo Cilento, you will definitely want to experience staying at the House of Pebbles. The house is amazing -- beautiful inside and out, full of fun, quirky decor and with a fascinating history. It is well-furnished, well-stocked, and extremely clean and comfortable. Its location is perfect for exploring the town's charming little streets and medieval castle by foot, or driving to nearby beaches and historic towns. As an added bonus, you will find that the view from the terrace is breathtaking any time of day. Francesco, the host, was very responsive, and check-in and check-out were seamless. We wish we could have stayed longer!
