Terrible

This hotel is a 2* . It’s condition is the worst hotel I’ve stayed at in years. Mouldy walls , dirty windows , broken floorboards the list goes on. Won’t be staying again until a complete renovation takes place.

Would definitely stay again

Upon check in we were told we had been upgraded to a larger room. A lovely surprise as it was a birthday trip. The room was clean, warm and comfortable. All the common areas on the ground floor were nicely laid out and colourful. Breakfast was tasty and plentiful. Would have been perfect if they offered more coffee options other than filter. Overall a good stay and would go back.

This hotel is quirky and old which adds to the charm and character. Some parts are dated because they are listed and have great history. 1920’s lift! Winston Churchill chair. We loved these additions. It is clean, well presented and staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. They explained our options for room, checked we were ok on higher floor and offered to show us how to get there. (Some areas are a bit warren like to get to (part of the charm). The room was large, clean, comfy beds, well stocked with tea/coffee, toiletries and towels. Big comfy pillows, warm room, TV etc. The water pressure was challenged (explained in bathroom notice - due to old plumbing and high floor) but adequate. It got warm but not hot in shower. Drunk singing guests woke my daughter around 1am and the windows let all noise through. Noisy traffic and bin men woke me at 6am. These are not the hotel’s fault but a consideration if you are a light sleeper. The beds were really comfortable and we easily got back to sleep. It was hard to leave the beds for breakfast, but we are glad we did. Again we were met by friendly welcoming staff, explained the buffet available and asked which drink we would like. All delicious and plentiful. A large range of cooked breakfast, cereals, pastries and fruit and yoghurt on offer. We had a brilliant stay and will come again. The hotel is right on seafront and near The Lanes. Parking available. Awesome.

Bands Love The Old Ship !!!!!

We love staying at the Old Ship, and we appreciate the staff accommodating our parking requests. We're a small band on the road, and your garage makes our gigs so much better as street parking is terrible for travel of this nature.

Amazing location. Room too hot for us though.

Fantastic location. Loved sea view room. Room very spacious. Room and bathroom very clean. Room was just too hot for us so we didn’t sleep very well. Fan in room didn’t make much difference. Radiator was on maximum all the time which we had no way to adjust/turn off.

Terrible, gone downhill massively

This hotel has really gone down hill & would advise not staying here. The price they now charge is a reflection on the rooms and service they now provide. Hotel and rooms need urgent attention. Room was like an oven when we walked in and all radiators on full blast. Creaking floor boards, bed like sleeping on cardboard & a ceiling fan spinning round at a snail’s pace, squeaking/rattling constantly and felt like was going to fall on our heads. After being in the room for a short while, my wife and I decided that it would be better to stay elsewhere.

Really disappointing

Receptionist was incredibly rude, eye rolling and extreamly unwelcoming when requesting if there was an option for an upgrade. Decided against the upgrade resulting in a loss of money to the hotel because it was clearly too much trouble for her to be courteous. Lots of damp walls throughout the hotel, mould and bubbling peeling paint. Curtains in the function room had ripped and stained linings in windows that faced the seafront looking awful. Tap in bathroom barely turned off. Shower head covered in rust and eroding. Water wasnt hot for showers. We have stayed at this hotel twice before hence why we booked it again for its location and price. Sadly it's gone down hill. It really needs some money spending on tidying it up and showing its customers that they care. It has so much potential and sadly this 3rd visit was really disappointing. Sadly the app isnt allowing me to add photos.
