The breakfast cafe was frustratingly slow and the espresso coffee maker out of service. When we first checked in we were assigned to a room with no windows. Had to come back down and ask for a room that had windows. Elevators have not been inspected in the required time period. One night of our stay the smoke detector went off and we smelled electrical smoke. Immediately left room and had the on duty staff member inspect the smoke detector and found the battery to be week. We asked to be moved to another room and he complied. That room had no ironing board or luggage stand, the next room had no coffee maker. The hotel has maintenance issues, cleanliness issues in the public spaces and restaurant, and is understaffed. I worried about our safety and the safety of other patrons. We will not be staying here again.

The front desk agent was wonderful — friendly and helpful — but the rest of the stay was very disappointing. There was hair in the bathroom, shower, and on both beds. The gym below had no towels, no wipes to clean equipment, and all the treadmills were broken. The hotel felt neglected, with spiderwebs on the light fixtures and dirty, stained carpet on the stairs. I used to work for Hilton Corporation and hold a degree in hospitality, so I understand what proper standards should look like. I don’t normally write negative reviews, but this one felt necessary. Sadly, this property does not represent the Hilton brand well.

Great check in and check out experience. Disappointing that there was not a fridge in the room. The toilet had a crack down the bowl. There was a clear plastic cup in the bathroom floor that I thought at first the room just wasn’t cleaned but then realized it’s likely more for a door stopper. This was my first time visiting this hotel. I used valet because I did not know where to park only to realize at nearly 40$ they basically are putting your car in the parking lot across the street that is free parking.

We stayed in room 1102 for Halloween night. We heard the elevator every time it was ran. Then the elevator went out so our friends had to climb 11 flights of steps! The room also didn't have a refrigerator which was disappointing since we had leftover food from lunch. I also wanted a second key made for the room and the key maker wasn't working.

Staff was not very helpful when our booking was not found. They were very rude. Rooms do not include a mini fridge or microwave if you need that but it was not needed for us. Breakfast is separate but would have been nice to be included as we were there for a conference. Overall an okay stay and facility was nice. Valet was really nice.

This hotel is suppose to be a first class, but it is far from it. The rooms were, nothing special, we could not get the TV to work, no one would answer at the front desk, so I had to go down to find out you had to turn on a light switch to get the TV to work. The rooftop bar was closed, they decided to start closing on a Sunday. The downstairs bar and restaurant was short handed, in fact the only person running the bar, quit, while serving us. Overall, we were very disappointed in our stay, I do not recommend spending the money to stay here.

This is a nice, older hotel in downtown Birmingham. Check in was easy, the staff was very pleasant. We had a room on the 9th floor- a corner room. The room itself was spacious. The bed in this room is double beds- very small for anyone over 6ft tall. The hotel does not have any type of roll away bed for an extra person in your room. There is public parking directly across the street- it’s pay to park- it only keys you pay for 12 hrs at a time so that’s inconvenient. Valet is available for a higher fee. The rooftop bar is nothing special. Seems it’s a local hangout and the folks there were quite rowdy. Basic drinks and beer were offered. This is an older building - quaint but not quiet. You can hear everything outside- even 9 Floors up. You can hear the old pipes rumbling, the elevators are loud ( but functional). The television in the rooms are not smart tv so all that’s available is local cable. The area around the hotel does not offer much in the way of food choices and everything closes very early. The hotel has a restaurant but we did not eat there. For the price we paid, I expected a bit more, but they call this a curio collection hotel so I guess that’s the justification for the rates. ??

The only reason I gave a low star review is due to at check-in, the bright-skin young lady with curly hair got a major attitude with me because she was trying to double charge my card after I was showing her, the charge had already went through. Another lady (I didn’t get her name) stepped in and was very nice and professional and took care of the situation. That was the only issue I had with the hotel. Everything else was excellent including all other staff.

We enjoyed the stay. The building is historical but is update enough to be nice. The rooftop area was a big plus with great views of the city. We enjoyed a coffee from the lobby and a tasty lunch from the restaraunt. The people were nice and we will stay again.
