Everything's bigger in Texas, and vacation destinations don't come much larger than the "Big D." That holds true for shopping, entertainment, dining, and Dallas hotels in the Lone Star State. Don't mess with picking any random Dallas hotel, though, because with more than 100,000 rooms spread across the Metroplex, you want to be close to the attractions on your itinerary.
Choosing Dallas Destinations
If you're into the performing arts, the Dallas Art District—the largest, contiguous urban art area in the nation—is where to stay so you can be nearby the Dallas Museum of Art and 12 other performing arts venues.
With 13 different entertainment districts, there are numerous opportunities to find cheap Dallas hotels as well as luxurious stays that are close to the action. Stay in Uptown, the West Village, or Oak Lawn for fine dining, a busy pub scene, and upscale shopping. South Lamar and West End provide historic but trendy nightspots. And if you dig the buzzing music scene, then stay in the Deep Ellum area.
Bring your big appetite for Tex-Mex, steak, and barbeque (many hotels in Dallas have fantastic in-house restaurants), then work off your meal walking through the Texas State Fairgrounds—the biggest in the country. History buffs (and conspiracy theorists) shouldn't miss the Sixth Floor Museum, which pays homage to JFK's legacy and assassination.
