Staying Downtown or by the River
Louisville is a big city full of small-town charm and fun. Downtown is the most popular choice for Louisville hotels, with Main Street offerings putting you within walking distance of Museum Row’s Louisville Slugger Museum, Louisville Science Center, and Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft.
Look for a cheap Louisville hotel along the Ohio River for picturesque views of the cityscape and close access to steamboat cruises on the Belle of Mississippi and the family-friendly Waterfront Park.
Living Large in Louisville
If eclectic shops, galleries, and eateries are high on your list, reserve a hotel in Louisville near East Market or the Highlands where you’ll experience Restaurant Row, popular nightclubs, and specialty shops. Staying near Old Louisville places you in the largest collection of Victorian architecture around, and is nation’s third-largest National Preservation District.
When visiting Churchill Downs--home to the Kentucky Derby, fancy hats, and mint juleps--plan ahead as finding hotels in Louisville can be difficult during race times. Otherwise, you might be stuck staying in a stable. Also, on the south side of town is the airport, the Kentucky State Fairgrounds, Iroquois Park, and—supposedly—one of the most haunted places in the Southeast.
Venture out with stays at a Louisville hotel on the Indiana side of town or surrounding areas, such as Lincoln’s birthplace, Fort Knox, Jeffersontown for the annual Gaslight Festival, and the Kentucky Bourbon Festival in Bardstown.
