Where to Find Barbados Hotels
The easternmost island of the Lesser Antilles, Barbados is ringed by pink and white-sand beaches. Although the island is now an independent nation, its colonial English influence can still be felt through cricket matches, tea time, and stately sugar plantation homes. Most Barbados hotels are located on the island's protected west shore; while the east side, facing the rougher waves of the Atlantic, is visited mainly for surfing and exploring the rocky coast.
Bridgetown, the island's capital and commercial center, draws vacationers for its shopping and nightlife. Most of the larger Barbados resorts are located north of Bridgetown along the powered-sugar beaches of St. James Parish. Some Barbados cheap hotels can be found south of the capital in the area known as Saint Lawrence Gap. This mile-long stretch along the beach also features numerous bars, dance clubs, and restaurants.
What to Do During Your Stay
Most travelers visit Barbados for the sun and sea. Popular activities include snorkeling and diving through the colorful coral reefs as well as boating and deep-sea fishing. It is worth leaving the beach, however, to do a little exploring. Many hotels in Barbados can arrange outings to tour the Mount Gay Rum Factory, enjoy the local flora at the Andromeda Botanical Garden or the Flower Forest, or ride a tram through the stalactites of Harrison's Cave.
