The third most populous city in the U.S., Chicago was founded in 1833 and incorporated in 1837. After the Great Chicago Fire of 1871 destroyed a third of the city, rapid rebuilding led to the construction of the world's first skyscraper. Ten stories tall - positively gargantuan for 1885! - the steel-framed Home Insurance Building paved the way for the skyline that presides over Lake Michigan today.
In fact, all Chicago vacations should include two things: a trip to the top of Sears Tower - the tallest building in North America - and a drink in the roof bar of the John Hancock Building (hit the ladies room for the best views!) Add a walk through Millennium Park to your Chicago vacation package, a stroll down the Magnificent Mile, and a visit to the Shedd Aquarium or the Adler Planetarium, and you'll start scratching the surface of this Midwestern jewel.
But don't stop there! Pump up your Chicago vacation with live jazz, catch an improv show at Second City, conduct your own taste test on the city's deep dish pizza, and join the fiercely loyal fans at Wrigley Field. Find great deals on Chicago vacation packages, and let the Windy City blow you away!
