"Very nice hotel, freezing pool"
My husband and I have loved going to Galena for years (he even proposed to me there). We've always wanted to stay at a B&B there, but price has hindered us. When I saw the pics of the rooms with the quilts on the bed, I thought we'd get a taste of a B&B in a chain hotel. The quilts and the old-fashioned looking trunk were nice touches. Clearly it's a hotel experience, but that's okay. They offer spa services, too. Though $55 for a half-hour massage was a bit steep. Still, in a boutique town like Galena, it wasn't a surprise. A nice option, though.
Since we have a 6-year-old daughter, an indoor pool was one of our top must-haves. That and a comfy bed (the beds are pretty decent). The pool itself is fantastic for families. It is huge and only goes to above 4 feet deep. It's big enough that adults and couple can enjoy a splash-free end of the pool while the kids go wild in the other end. It is the largest pool I've seen in a hotel; and the hot tub was twice as large as the usual hot tub.
Unfortunately, the pool's temperature was absolutely frigid. I expected ice bergs to be floating by. When I mentioned it to the desk clerk at check-out, he completely blew me off--and this was after he asked about my stay.
Continental breakfast is included from 7-10 a.m. The make-your-own waffles were great. Other fare included cold cereal, instant oatmeal, small donuts and muffins, French toast you microwave, plain bagels, toast, juice, yogurt, coffee, tea and hot cocoa. No eggs or anything like that, but nice.
Our room was nice, clean and pleasant. There's free wifi, which is just a must-have now.
I recommend this hotel for a nice stay ... but also recommend you ask the front desk to see if they can arrange for the pool to be heated up to a reasonable temperature. :)
