A small town in southeastern Moravia mostly famous for its shoes factory, Bat'á, Tomas Bata University and original architecture. Very nice and cozy, quiet, with a small but entertainment-packed city centre.

Baťa's skyscraper, Zlín, Czech republic

Tomáš Baťa was born 140 years ago and after WWI he succesfully founded a shoe making business and he became the biggest shoe manufacturer and shoe retail seller in the world before WWII with some 35 thousand employees worldwide.

In Czech republic he actually reformatted the town of Zlín in South Moravia. In 1926 Baťa invited many architects (eg. Le Corbusier) and built a whole new aglomeration in Functionalism style. Not only the manufacturing halls, but also offices, shopping mall, hospital, cinema hall, hotel and houses for his employees.

The flagship was Baťa's skyscraper called also Building Nr. 21, which was built in 1937-38. It is perfect Functionalism style building 77 metres tall having 16 floors. The building had its own air condition system, 24 thousand square metres of offices acommodating some 2.800 staff and conference and showrooms on 15th floor.

This is the panorama terrace on the top of the skyscraper again a pure functional architecture.

It outstanding how the design after 80 years still looks modern and pure.
