we reserved a king sweep with Jacuzzi and pullout couch. I had called and spoken to the front desk and they told me they would hold that type of room when we got there. They explained that they gave them them to someone else even though the note was on my folio.. They gave us another room with two twin beds and a $20 discount. The rum had no hangers, no soap or shampoo, the shower had a chunk in it. We also went to the indoor pool. The pool area itself was nice, but there were literally no lights on and we could not find where to turn them on because it was so dark. I will never stay at this motel again.

During an off season stay, there were very few visitors and they were in the process of doing some renovations. In spite of that, everything was in working order and there were no noises or construction disturbance. The restaurant and bar at the Whaler was very popular and the food was excellent. The stir fry in particular, and then the wings special on Sunday night, just excellent!

It was fine. Room was clean, bed comfortable, shower and tub good. It had a strong scent of some air freshener--too much for my taste; I had to leave the door open for a while to air it out. Only one window, facing the grounds and next to the door, didn't open. The grounds are fine, the staff also fine. It's on a local highway so nowhere to walk to, but convenient for driving. The breakfast is really minimal, with no tables. I chose this place over the New Bedford Harbor Hotel based on some poor reviews there, but in retrospect, given that I wanted to see New Bedford, would have picked that place--great downtown location (2 blocks from whaling museum), much more complete breakfast.
