I live here and there's a park right on the shore of Lake Macquarie (Australia's largest salt water lake, as in one that actually has water in it all the time).
There's a lovely park, sadly without facilities, just down the road and it's a wonderful spot to shoot sunrises or view some bird life.

This is Gap Creek Falls in Watagans National Park. It's a relatively short but tricky walk and you'll be extremely lucky to see this sort of flow going over. However, when you get some good rain, the fall expands dramatically and is well worth the walk in.
One of the things I'm interested in is nature photography. When I moved to Buttaba I discovered a grevillea in a park not too far away and the honeyeaters love it.
This is an eastern spinebill. Apart from small raptors this is about the only bird I know that hovers in Australia. It's not as competent as a hummingbird but it still made for a nice photo.
