In April 2001, Egyptian archaeologists uncovered 22 mummies in Bahariya, some 350 kilometres from Cairo. They date from the 6th century BC and were neatly divided into two tombs. Shortly afterwards, during a journey through the White Desert, I was given the exceptional opportunity to descend with an Egyptian friend in one of the tombs. There I found this untouched sarcophagus of a mother with the mummy of her child on top of her. We had some at the front desk when we first arrived that could have been avoided but after the issue was fixed, our stay was very nice. The room and bathroom was clean but the jet tub was clearly dirty. The views were great but the traffic noise could be a lot if you’re not used to it.
