This is a beautiful building but unfortunately the rooms are staring to look tired. We have stayed before a few years ago and it is noticeable the place was in need of a tidy up. Just minor stuff, like grouting falling out in bathroom, scuffs on walls, curtain rails not allowing curtain to close properly. Then no AC in room, which tough in a 30 degree day. Noise on Main Street very loud late at night. This was a very different experience to our wonderful first time stay, so a bit disappointing, especially as this is not a cheap hotel.. On a plus side their beds are amazingly comfortable and space in room a big plus.

The staff are very friendly. They were patient and very helpful with my questions. We love the room, 2 bedrooms upstairs with shaded windows open to the living area, lovely and romantic. And it’s very clean everywhere. My daughter asked, can we stay here every time we come Christchurch?

The flavor of "Gilded Age" in this historic, well preserved building. Premium location - walkable, in the middle of everything - just step outside to shopping, restaurants, and the historic tram is just below! Spacious apartment (but two levels so we had stairs), clean building, helpful staff. So glad we stayed here instead of the modern Distinction hotel next door!

Beautiful and interesting historic building to stay in, very well equipped with full kitchenette and in room laundry - perfect to relax in after two long haul flights. We were celebrating our honeymoon and the staff were kind enough to leave a card and gift in the room. Great location in a very walkable city.

Fantastic location right in the heart of Christchurch. Upgraded to a 2 bedroom unit which was huge. Older style property but beautifully restored, well heated and very comfortable.

The former government building was a unique experience due to its history and architecture. It felt quite grand with the high ceilings, spacious living area, the beds were upstairs in a loft that had windows over looking the living area and we enjoyed having two bathrooms and the kitchen was well equipped. The room had wall heaters but felt a little cold. There was a bit of difficulty with the hotel accessing the payment from Expedia which caused some stress when we were signing in, however after having to access the Expedia support chat twice it was resolved. We chose to pay $30NZD for valet parking. We didn’t look at the gym facilities. The staff were polite and helpful.

Great stay.

Excellent Hotel. Downstairs Bar and Restaurant were great. Very comfortable apartment, that is well located for all sights. Directly opposite the damaged Cathedral. Very close to the Conference Centre.
