The property is extraordinary with stupendous views of the Hudson and expansive grounds for exploring. The house itself is large and comfortable with fun games and an amazing primary suite. Some areas could use refreshing, especially the kitchen. There are some disused structures from a former purpose of the property as a summer theater. The pool was not open for our early May visit but the hot tub (nice surprise!) was up and running. It was a great location for our family reunion. FYI the company uses a security firm to collect information about the renters—photo ID and video scan of face. This was a bit off putting to us but I guess will become increasingly common. We would return—it’s a rare find to access a large house with river views that is just minutes from cultural venues and easily accessed by Amtrak from Hudson, NY.

Not sure how I can fully express how magical our stay was at this house! The house itself is a perfect balance of vintage and chic. It is absolutely gigantic and has plenty of space for people to hang out in large groups or sneak away for some peace and quiet. It was very snowy when we were up there (which added to the magic) but the host was amazing about checking on us and getting the driveway plowed when we needed it. The beds are very very comfortable, the kitchen supplies are abundant, the house was spotless and homey. Can not recommend enough.

Overall we had a great stay at the River House. We spent a long weekend with family celebrating a milestone birthday. The house had plenty of space so we weren’t on top of each other and almost everyone had their own bathroom. Views were great, there were lots of different rooms for gathering and the game room as well as pool and hot tub made for a great weekend. The house was much older than expected and not kept up. Being able to heat the pool even a little would have been a big bonus. It was also clear it hadn’t been deep cleaned in a long time. Communicating with the management company started out great but was harder to get a timely response towards the end of our stay. All that said, it had everything we needed and we’d consider renting again.

This property is overpriced. The online photos must be very old or very carefully staged. Although the physical setting is beautiful, the house itself suffers from significant deferred maintenance. Doors do not close securely, stained walls need paint, wooden floors have holes and severe wear, exterior decks and walkways are worn and degraded, pool heater broken, and mismatched furniture has seen better days. Central air conditioning does not service much of the house, so many rooms require their own window or separate cooling units. Fans are provided, but wide variation in interior temperature persists throughout the day and night. We had lots of bugs in the house much of the time. The kitchen appliances and equipment are insufficient for cooking for a full house. The saving grace was the local property manager who responded quickly to any questions and needed repairs, though he did not have much of a budget to make improvements.

We had a wonderful time in Catskill! The house was lots of fun and had tons of space for everyone. We reached out with some questions before our stay and never received a response, many of the outlets didn’t work and the house could have used an extra cleaning before we arrived but overall we had a great time.

Great family gathering spot

The number of bedrooms and bathrooms was great for the 13 of us. The big kitchen, pantry and long dining tables made for fun interaction. The game room with pool table and ping pong table were perfect for after dinner fun. Beautiful property on the river. We plan to go back. Historic homes are tough to maintain and our hope is that it is as nice in the future as it was this week.

The house was perfect for our family of 17 members, age range 19 to 86 years. We loved the ping pong table and the shuffleboard table. We missed having a workable fireplace. That would be a good addition.

Epic bachelor party

We had an amazing bachelor party weekend at this place. The views of the Hudson (which we were able to kayak out on thanks to the kayaks provided by the property), the lounging by the pool, the backyard games on the sprawling lawn, the grilling on the huge deck, the poker game around the enormous dining room table, the hours spent in the game room, all of it was just a great time at a truly unique property. The only hiccup was that the water went out on the first day due to an issue with the water well but the property manager responded immediately and came with hired help to fix it. We will talking about this trip for years to come!

WOW! AMAZING FAMILY REUNION - WE WANT TO COME BACK

We loved the place. The views in the morning and at sunset were breathtaking. The lake in front was amazing. The house itself was in great condition, so many rooms for our large 20+ group and the way the house is set up encouraged everyone to bond across multiple living rooms Great swimming pool and kayaking was available. We really got to bond as family and everyone wants to come back. Our bonding was enhanced as everyone just loved the environment, Thank you again for doing a superb job looking after the house and its premises and making our stay GREAT.

Awesome Long Weekend!

20 of my friends and I enjoyed this home over a long summer weekend. It was perfect — queen/king sized beds for everyone; big yard for lawn games and a slip and slide; and a pool, hottub, and fire pit perfect for a group hangout. The property is extremely private, but the property manager is just a text away and very responsive. We’ll be back!
