Artful vacation home with pool & trullo in the Apulian countryside, idyllic tranquillity!
This idyllically situated vacation home is perfect for a wonderful summer vacation in Apulia. Start your day with an espresso on one of the rooftop terraces or with a dip in the pool right next to the olive grove.
This architecturally unique home features three bedrooms and a trullo, typical of the region. The dining room is outdoors, where you can cook and dine under an old olive tree. The beach, Carovigno, and Ostuni are all just a few minutes’ drive away.
The house is ideal for six people—whether families or couples—and offers
- a fully equipped indoor and outdoor kitchen - three bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms - a guest bathroom - a trullo - two rooftop terraces - a 40-square-meter saltwater pool - spacious sunbathing areas and a poolside bar
The property consists of four separate buildings: a historic trullo, a lamia, and two modern additions. A 15-meter-long pool that flows directly into the olive grove provides much-needed refreshment during the summer months. Since life in southern Italy mostly takes place outdoors, the courtyard between the four buildings serves as the heart of the home, featuring an outdoor kitchen and a long table that invites guests to cook, eat, and gather.
The previous owner of the house, Italian architect and artist Luca Bombassei, designed the interiors entirely in black, creating a space where guests can enjoy a restful night’s sleep. Murals of oversized birds and a nest on the roof of the guest bathroom still hint at the house’s former name, “Il Nido.”
Inside the trullo, guests will find a cozy living room—which stays pleasantly cool on hot days—under the conical roof. The Lamia and the two new buildings feature three double bedrooms with en suite bathrooms and contemporary art, as well as an additional indoor kitchen.
The house features two rooftop terraces where you can wind down the evening under the starry sky, accompanied by the song of cicadas and a view of the tranquil landscape unfolding like a green sea.
Please note: One of the architectural features of La Casa di Bru is that the four buildings—housing the kitchen, bedrooms with bathrooms, and the trullo—are not connected to one another but are accessible only via the inner courtyard.
La Casa di Bru is designed as a summer home. Therefore, there is (as of now) no indoor dining area. In case of rain, we ask that you move to the room with the TV for meals, where smaller tables are available for this purpose.
The walls of the rooftop terraces are very low, and the stairs do not have railings. Therefore, please use caution when accessing them to avoid potential accidents. Children, in particular, should not access the terraces without supervision. In the event of an accident, we accept no liability.
More information about the surrounding area:
Located in the heart of Italy’s popular destination, the Valle d’Itria, the house also offers easy access to the lesser-known Alto Salento region. The villa’s hometown, Carovigno, is an ancient town that served as a loyal outpost of the Roman Empire. The small town’s medieval center remains intact, featuring a castle and city gates that enclose old churches and palm-lined squares. Carovigno preserves the ancient tradition of the “Nzegna,” a more than 1,000-year-old tradition of flag-waving and festivities linked to a religious community originating from the nearby cave church of Maria Santissima di Belvedere.
Another nearby village is Ostuni, an UNESCO World Heritage Site, whose gleaming white facades cluster on a gentle hill and whose streets are lined with artisan shops and cafés. Sun worshippers will love that the coast and sandy beaches are just a short drive away. The Adriatic coast here is known for its picturesque, rocky coves. The Torre Guaceto Nature Reserve and the port towns of Polignano a Mare and Monopoli are also a short distance from the house.
Puglia is home to thousands of trulli—the charming, conical houses built of dry-stacked stone that once served as agricultural storage sheds. Today, most trulli have been converted into private retreats that dot the rural landscape, especially in and around Alberobello—a UNESCO-listed village well worth a visit—as well as other picturesque towns nearby, including Cisternino and Locorotondo.
