Missouri Heights is a high alpine shelf that sits approximately 1,000 feet above the floor of the Roaring Fork Valley. It commands spectacular views south directly at Mt Sopris and the entire snow-capped Elk Mountain Range. You can access it either from Basalt (Willets) or Carbondale (Catherine's Store). Historically a ranching area, the Heights still preserves its Old West flavor with many large horse farms and cattle ranches. Bikers love it, as the small winding mountain roads are generally restricted to local traffic, and it provides the peace and quiet of country setting, despite being only minutes by car down into the Valley where the hustle and bustle of restaurants, stores and services awaits you when you desire. Truly, you have to see this magical place to believe it:)
Directions: coming from Glenwood Springs towards Aspen on Highway 82, turn left at Catherine's Store Rd and proceed about 2.3 miles to Missouri Heights Rd. Take a right and proceed about 1.2 miles to the property entrance on the right. Coming from Aspen towards Glenwood Springs, turn right at El Jebel Rd and proceed about 2.4 miles to Fender Lane. Turn left and proceed about 2.3 miles to property entrance on the left. Note: both Missouri Heights Rd and Fender Lane are the same as County Road 102. It's confusing, we know, but we didn't name the roads up here:)
