Glide through the air and look down on Florida’s countryside on an aerial adventure at Wallaby Ranch. The hang gliding flight park offers glider rides that soar up to 2,000 feet (610 meters) above the ground. They can be enjoyed by people of all ages, from young children to senior citizens.
You will ride with a certified tandem instructor who is strapped into a harness beside yours. The glider is pulled into the air by a tow plane and then released for you to fly freely for 15 minutes. The instructor will then bring you gently back down to earth. For an additional fee, you can have a DVD recording of your hang gliding flight.
Build up your confidence and skill level by taking several flights. As you do so, your instructor will let you take more control of the craft until you are steering and landing without this guidance. Experienced pilots can fly solo using their own gliders or by renting one of the ranch's. There are more than 50 to choose from of varying sizes.
Wallaby Ranch also has plenty of activities on the ground. Hike or mountain bike through the surrounding woods where you may see deer, various species of migrating birds and the endangered Florida Panther. There are 15 miles (24 kilometers) of trails to explore. If you still have a head for heights, scale the climbing wall. Then enjoy a refreshing swim in the pool and relax in the hot tub.
Wallaby Ranch is open 24 hours a day, every day of the year. There are tent and RV camping facilities for those who want to stay overnight. Situated in Davenport, the glider park is less than a 20-minute drive from Walt Disney World and a 37-minute drive from Orlando International Airport. There is no public transport access to the ranch and on-site parking is free.
