Liked: Staff & service
The location is good and close to many sights. It's a cheap stay which obviously is the point, however rooms are quite run down and there was mold and damp on the ceiling, that was so close to me as I was lucky to get the top bunk. Breakfast was basic, but overall good. Staff was helpful, especially the younger boy serving the breakfast buffet.
A gorgeous Georgian mansion converted into comfortable accommodations. Curving staircases and stuccoed ceilings. The staff are genuinely kind and helpful. Much more characterful than a cheap chain hotel.
The owner was very helpful and friendly.
You can refill your water bottle and hot water is also available at the reception.
Pleanty of option for dinner and breakfast.
Easy access from train station, about 5-min walk.
No elevator which is usual in the UK.
Highly recommended.
Booked a one night stay in a private triple room (room 15). Room was on the top floor and very quiet, clean and comfortable. Will not hesitate using again next time I need to stay in York.
No kitchen or fridge and toilets that were not great. But cages for stuff under beds (you had to purchase a padlock) and curtains on the bunk beds which were appreciated.
