We stayed in the traditional classic room, part of the original building. Hotel is beautiful - staff are extremely well trained and helpful. Food in the Rise restaurant is first class. Room was well appointed and spotless, yet furniture a little creaky and well used - but understandable. Certai ly would.welcome a little facelift like the executive rooms on the newer uplifted part the building. Minor niggle- the slider divider doors for bathroom and toilet felt cumbersome and not really in keeping with the overall lovely room experience. Make no mistake, for York, this is the best hotel by far. Deserves a 5 star rating for what was a 5 star experience. Spa and pool facility is a winner. Unbeatable location is another ! A stones throw from the Shambles, museum, Clifford Tower, etc etc and 3 minutes from the train station. Definitely recommend the Grand Hotel - but is it worth the hefty price tag for a few nights? Yes. It was a great place.

Our stay with you was spectacular. All the staff we talked to or came into contact with were exceptional, well done it felt great. There was a lady who managed the bar (I missed her name but she's a 6'2" runner from Oldham) and she was absolutely awesome. Hotel restaurant and bar were fantastic, one of the best meals I've ever had the wellington Surf and Turf. The bar was relaxing and had a wonderful female jazz singer on the night we were in there, also seemingly meticulously picked for the room and atmosphere. Perfect location for the York Xmas markets which were also fantastic on a fairly rainy day.
